Vehicle Description
1932 Chevrolet Confederate 1/2 Ton Sedan Delivery
The Chevrolet Series BA/BB Confederate, (or Chevrolet Confederate),
is an American vehicle manufactured by Chevrolet in 1932 to replace
the 1931 Series AE Independence. Production slipped significantly
from over 600,000 cars to 323,100 for the model year as the Great
Depression continued, but was still sufficient for Chevrolet to
retain first place in the American car sales table. Sales were also
affected by cross-town rival Ford introducing the Ford V8 coupe and
sedan. A new body style called a station wagon was produced in
limited quantities by coachbuilder Mifflinburg Body Company of
Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania. Flint Assembly, Buffalo Assembly and
Janesville Assembly provided more than one coachwork choice due to
production capacity. In May of 1925 the Chevrolet Export Boxing
plant at Bloomfield, New Jersey was repurposed from a previous
owner where knock-down kits for Chevrolet, Oakland, Oldsmobile,
Buick and Cadillac passenger cars, and both Chevrolet and G. M. C.
truck parts are crated and shipped by railroad to the docks at
Weehawken, New Jersey for overseas GM assembly factories.
Purchased new by a market in Brooklin, ME and used until 1958, then
tucked away for the past 65 years, this 1932 Chevrolet Confederate
1/2 Ton Sedan Delivery has come to grace our Hallowed Halls here at
the Classic Auto Mall. Replete with battle scars dutifully earned
possibly from working and possibly delivering lobster to the fine
folks of south coastal Maine, we give you this piece of working
Americana.

Exterior
With the main body covered in an off shade of red floating over
black running boards with worn rubber and clearly visible rust and
rot. Dings, dents, chips, and surface rust are present and areas of
invasive rust have taken over on the lower body panels, fenders and
running boards. Clouded headlights float atop a thin black bar that
fronts the chrome trim surrounded radiator. A twin cowled hood sits
in front of a flat windshield, and a black vinyl roof covering tops
off this piece of history. A tarnished and rusted chrome bumper
hang at the front of this truck, and in the back it's just the red
body and 2 doors. 18-inch steel wire wheels sit on all for corners
and have small chrome hubcaps. 5.25/5.50-18 rubber wraps said
wheels and a bald spare of the same size sits on the front of the
driver side running board.
Interior
Spartan and utilitarian is the motif for the interior. Worn window
cranks and door handles front the torn and tattered black door
panels with the driver side being the worst, as a 1/3rd of it is
missing. Twin faded and torn black vinyl covered bucket seats with
stained off white covers hover over a replacement wood floor that
has twin sticks protruding, one for the gear shift and the other
for the parking brake. A worn black 3-spoke steering wheel fronts a
simplistic steel dash. A peppering of chrome bezel black and white
face gauges dress up the center of the aged full metal jacket dash
and are showing the speedometer, ignition, water temp, fuel gauge,
and ampere gauge. Dual rear doors swing open to reveal aqua/blue
side panels and a wood lined floor that is ready to haul all your
supplies.
Drivetrain
Swing open the twin cowled hood and feast your eyes upon 194ci of
6-cylinder cast iron in overhead stovebolt inline form. Topped with
a 1-barrel carburetor and backed by the correct non-synchronized
3-speed manual transmission all is well and good here.
Undercarriage
A strong steel frame showing only surface rust supports a replaced
wooden floor. Leaf springs are standard issue suspension both front
and rear along with mechanical drum brakes at all four corners. The
underside of the running boards present with surface rust and wood
rot and the only noteworthy invasive rust is at the bottom of the
spare tire holder and rears of the front fenders.
A good barn find with all the pieces accounted for. A blank canvas
for your inner artist to mold and shape into your own. Come on down
to the Classic Auto Mall and feast your eyes on this piece of
history that could be your next project to love and caress.
