Vehicle Description
This 1961 Studebaker Hawk has the long and sleek look of something
special. That's why it has spent 60+ years under the respected care
of the same owners. There was even a later restoration to ensure
you could show off this V8 coupe with pride and remind everyone
that some of the best classics didn't always come from the big
three.
The story from the consignors goes back to late 1962. The Vaughns
were the second owners of a 29k-mile Studebaker Hawk. They
continued to drive this with regularity up until 1976. During that
period, Studebaker stopped producing cars, and so the Vaughns held
onto this coupe from a concluded brand. The car would spend the
next 35 years in covered storage and garages. They then started a
frame-off restoration in 2011 that took five years to complete. And
good care means the black paint continues to shine with distinction
to show off the well-done sheet metal and overall beauty that came
from the legendary Raymond Loewy. You can tell the restoration was
a labor of love because it includes the little things, like the
stock wheel covers, pliable weather-stripping, and complete
badging. Even the creamy white insert of the rear trim coordinates
with the inner part of the side grilles. So yes, they took their
time and paid attention.
The red interior is quite striking. It has a fresher and cleaner
attitude like the exterior, but they also leave some patina on the
metal trim to remind you of the car's history. We love the detailed
vintage style with the two-tone steering wheel, working dome light,
and tuck-and-roll dash. But this car also likes to be a true
cruiser, and so you have the right subtle upgrades. The radio is a
retro-style AM/FM/cassette unit for better driving music, and the
upholstery feels terrific with the supple leather. You have a
sporty attitude with the machine-turned dash, Stewart Warner
gauges, floor shifter, and front bucket seats.
Under the hood is Studebaker's own 289 cubic-inch V8. You can tell
from the clean style that plenty was invested during the
restoration, and how this fires up, and runs reaffirms the feeling
of good care. The four-speed manual transmission gives you full
control over the motor, and the full package lets you feel the road
in a nice vintage way.
Complete with the owner's manual. This is a stunning Studebaker
with a terrific story. It's a glossy, complete, and rare coupe
that's up for grabs. So don't miss your chance. Call now!
