This 1975 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 is a nice mix of vintage and
upgraded. It makes for a total package that has the proper
old-school V8 power car fun, and the right additions to make it
even more enjoyable to take out for a drive.
When looking for a classic, we know the Western ones are the best,
and in fact, we're told this only has a history in Texas and
Arizona. So it's a clean-looking body that also has the distinction
of a sleek black style. The paint was an upgrade later in life, but
of course, we all know Firebirds look terrific in a dark hue.
There's even a cool golden accent with the headlight buckets, rear
graphics on the spoiler, and a swoopy pinstripe that rolls through
the fenders and up the door. Even the classic Rally II wheels have
a custom black and gold style. It's not trying to be a Bandit T/A
impersonator, but rather, it just likes tapping into that touch of
Pontiac soul we all love. After all, the bold twin scoops on the
hood mean no true enthusiast will mistake it for anything but a
powerful Formula coupe.
A saddle tan interior always looks terrific against a black
exterior. Some details are updated, like the front bucket seats
with good bolstering and sporty perforated inserts. Other details
remain quite stock, like the gauge package, carpeting, center
console, and classic Pontiac sports steering wheel. The smooth
wood-like trim around the gauges is an especially nice vintage
upscale touch. Plus, there's a bit of a luxurious feel with air
conditioning, power windows, and an upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo with
aux input.
The Formula 400 name is a big clue to what you can expect under the
hood: this is the mighty 400 cubic-inch V8. We're told this was
owned by a Pontiac specialist about a decade ago, and he rebuilt
this year-correct motor. There has only been about 7k miles put on
it since then. This has also seen good care with newer items like
the distributor, vacuum hoses, radiator, and ca-delete exhaust all
within the last few years. The V8 fires up eagerly as it inhales
deeply with a four-barrel carburetor. It has a well-maintained
road-ready feeling that is furthered by good driving features like
a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes,
front discs, and sway bars front & rear. You even have a new (2022)
set of BF Goodrich T/As.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual, maintenance
records, and Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) documentation. This is
a sharp-looking car that also has an overall driver-ready attitude
and finish. And so if you need to be seen out on the streets in
this Formula 400 tomorrow, you know you need to call today!
