Vehicle Description
1987 Chrysler Conquest TSi - Same Owner Since 1989 - 2.6L Turbo
Charged 4 Cylinder - 5 Speed Manual Transmission - 81,945 Miles -
Black on Black In the time of major growth in electronics from
personal computers, to Walkman players and digital watches, the
Conquest was a sports car that was a performer, and offered great
technology at an affordable price. Not only that, once seated
inside the car, the combination of an angular dashboard, lots of
buttons and equalizers, and a turbo boost gauge were enough to make
the choice word to describe the car go from cool to radical! At the
time that this car took pride of place in showrooms, a Conquest key
in hand made you cool, but add a Casio watch, Members Only Jacket,
and a pair of Nikes to the mix, and you really had a leg up on your
friends in the style points game. Fans of the Conquest and the
sister car Mitsubishi Starion often affectionately call the cars
Starquest twins. The cars were very similar with the main
differences being visual styling cues. The 2.6 Liter Turbocharged
engine found in the TSi produced about 176 horsepower, along with a
bit of turbo lag in the process. The car you see here is a Plymouth
Conquest TSi finished in Black over a Black interior, and currently
showing approximately 81,945 miles on the mechanical odometer.
Exterior styling of this car is intriguing with the box flares,
rear spoiler, pop-up headlamps, low front bumper, deep side sills,
a wide wheel and tire combination, hard to miss badging, and grid
patterned tail lights. This particular car looks to have been well
kept and has been with one local owner since 1989. The paint is in
good condition, with some scratches and chips showing, but is
glossy and even throughout. The 16-inch wheels have thick-spokes
and wide lips, and are wrapped in sticky tires. Rad styling inside
the car is to be expected, from the array of buttons to the stereo
equalizer panel. We expected that the gauge cluster would be
digital, but the analog gauges, which include a boost gauge work
just fine. The interior has been well kept over the years, and is
complete with leather seats, Conquest script rear seat belts,
accordion-style shift boot, stereo buttons on the steering wheel,
and moving seat belts. A few of the buttons on the dash are worn,
but overall the interior is in very nice condition. The large
displacement 4 cylinder engine under the hood is mated to a 5 speed
manual transmission, and of course features a turbocharger for some
extra oomph. The engine bay is a maze of hoses and wires, but is
clean and presents well. The turbocharger is mounted next to the
engine and easy to see under the heat shield - ala Buick GNX. The
underside of the car shows some surface corrosion, but doesn't look
to be near a point that there will be issues. Though the days of
hanging at a mall in the food court may be fading, the styling of
the 1980's will always be around, and intriguing for many. This
cool Conquest is a blast from the past which could win some style
points whether at the mall, or a local car meet. Please call if
interested or e-mail with specific questions. The following
maintenance has been done to the car in the last few months: new
windshield, new battery, removal of the gas tank and cleaned it,
new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new front calipers, rebuilt the
rear calipers, and brand new tires. The car runs and drives well.
The items have been checked and are operable: Motorized seatbelts,
manual and electronic door locks, headlights, headlight buckets,
taillights, blinkers, power mirrors, front wipers and squirter,
rear wiper, radio, horn, HVAC blower, steering wheel controls, and
cluster gauges. The AC system is all there, but doesn't blow cold
which might just need a recharge. Please call if interested or
e-mail with specific questions. Thanks for looking! Rear
