Vehicle Description
1967 Chevrolet Nova Hardtop
The 1960s Chevy II/Nova was one of Chevrolet's best selling models
and was sold as a compact car. It didn't take General Motors long
to realize they could put some of their bigger engines in these
cars and people would buy them for performance as well. Hence A
Nova ad that states " The Sleeper Awakes"
Dignifying our showroom space here at Classic Auto Mall is this
Nova SS Stunner. I say this because one look at the fit, finish,
and paint on this car and you will not be able to restrain yourself
from being impressed. A certainly assured job well done, very few
faults, definitely a show car, however you do not need to be afraid
of taking it out on the weekends and blow out some of the carbon
buildup, as dad used to say!
Exterior
Gosh where do I start..I could just say it's all great, and be
scary as to my accuracy, but I digress....A stunningly shiny egg
crate grille with single headlights flanking either side, all
surrounded by beautiful trim work, and held up by an original
re-plated bumper with no faults in the chrome. A bump up factory
hood bathed in Blurple, (uhhh excuse me!), actually a mix of blue
and purple, makes its way back to factory tinted glass surrounded
by re-plated and polished trim. This continues on the door uppers
and roof as well as the trunk lid. A thin red stripe is underneath
the Blurple (excuse me again, must have been that Mexican food last
night...), and delineates it from the excellent applied Silver
Metallic paint courtesy of House of Kolor. Like new GM panels make
up the slabbed sides, and they align just perfectly, and are
spattered with newly plated polished handles, mirrors, and badging.
Bringing up the rear is a straight as an arrow trunk lid, and rear
trimmed tail lights, with a bumper below, all re-plated and
polished to factory looks. Paint is stunning on this car and was
done by a serious shop. 17-inch front Boze polished wheels and
18-inch Boze polished wheels are on the car all wrapped in low
profile 225/40R17's in front and 275/35R18's on back all from the
24th week of 2013. Wonderful stance, wonderful paint, and just all
buttoned up ready to show and go. Dearly beloved, we are gathered
here today.....
Interior
A swing of the doors on this delicious resto-mod ride, and we see
all custom throughout. Let's start with the door panels which are
all made in the suede using light gray stitched square panels
alongside darker gray leather linear trimmings and an arm rest.
Purple stitching adds excitement. Billet actuators and cranks throw
in with a mod squad look. Blurple uppers are in the sills. Inside,
very modern medium high back buckets are snappy looking with more
square purple thread stitched suede inserts and darker gray leather
bolsters in an V form encroaching into the inserts. A matchey
matchey back bench is in, and looking great as well. A custom
center console replaces the original and is in dark gray. It sports
an armrest, dual billet cup holders and the floor shifter. Upfront
the custom dash is nothing like the original and is a stunner. It
uses Dakota LED digital/analog sweep gauges and is fronted by a
Ididit column and Billet Specialties rally steering wheel. The dash
top is leather and padded in medium gray, meanwhile the front is
satin aluminum panels, and the lowers are Blurple. Vintage Air is
neatly installed and a kick ass Alpine head unit sound system
featuring an AM/FM/CD player, JL speakers and 10-inch subs to rock
your world as the under the hood takes care of any competition. Now
in are power windows, billet knobs and pulls, and the simple
Vintage AC controls also billet styling. Very clean gray carpeting
covers the floors and the headliner is a custom fiberglass center
with suede edge panels. Just all expertly performed on this resto,
and right down to the trunk which is lined with perfect gray
carpeting. I pray I get to ride in this one!!
Drivetrain
Opening the hood is like a religious experience as everyone who
does so just exclaims "Oh, Jesus!". Here we see the stunning
blurple painted engine bay with Christ Alston Chassisworks
fabricated aluminum side panels and wheel wells. This mill is a
Chevrolet 6.2 liter LS3 and has a 102 mm Fast intake, a 102mm Nick
Williams throttle body, GM performance heads with a custom ground
Booze Bros. racing cam inside making a dyno proven 550hp. There are
Billet Specialties valves and coil covers, Stainless Works headers,
and a Concept One pulley system. It is sparked by a high output
alternator. It has EFI, and a 5 speed manual tranny with a Tremec
Street/Strip hydraulic clutch. There is a 10 bolt 4.11 posi rear
axle and it has been narrowed to accommodate the tubs for the wider
tires. All this power is aided in the exhale with Stainless Works
headers and a Flowmaster Exhaust system.... Cue the angels to sing
the Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!
Undercarriage
When one states every nut and bolt was taken off this car for the
restoration, you would expect to see what is under this
car..nothing but clean, mechanically perfect, straight, shiny
compilation of parts working together as they should. Independent
coil over front suspension is by Chris Alston Chassisworks, and a
Heidt's rear which includes a 4 link system with coil overs.
Wilwood brakes are all discs, with a 6 piston front and 4 piston
rear...AMEN!
Drive-Ability
Too much car for this writer, so my partner in crime took the wheel
and went straight to hell, well actually the test track, where he
put the car through its paces and was truly duly impressed. With
the 550 horses on the dyno it surely does not fool around. Solid
braking and easy shifting, and it will easily eat up anything on
the street in todays gas saving world, (even if its built to not
save fossils). We could say he was boing again!!
This car is a real highlighter here, and rightfully so. All the
attention to detail, restored to some what how it looked in 1967,
only WAAAAAY cooler, and runs like a clock. This will be the
toughest block on your block. Deport your import and snap this one
up it won't be here long. A classic fer sur, and an eye catcher
with some steam under the hood. Ohhhhhh God, Ohhhhhh God!! A
religious experience.
