Vehicle Description
This is a rare opportunity to own an interesting icon that has been
exceptionally preserved. This 1979 MGB is a genuine Limited Edition
model that's a documented actual miles machine with believed
original paint, a stock interior, and a time capsule under the
hood. And because this true classic is also a nimble British
drop-top, it has the kind of attitude that's just begging to hit
the road.
The Limited Edition cars are an in-demand item. It was a
triple-black presentation right from the factory, and less than
6,800 were made over a two-year run. Collectors look for this car,
especially one like this where the paint is believed to be the same
application the Abingdon factory applied over 40 years ago! And
since we don't always see this level of gloss and shine even from a
resprayed black, you know this car has been treated with care. The
silver striping package is a special design reserved for the
Limited Edition cars, and in fact, it connects this style to even
rarer LE cars that only stayed in England. So British car fans
really do know this one is something special. Other distinct
features of these LE cars are the deep chin spoiler and a luggage
rack. And those special five-spoke alloys were a true calling card
for these special edition convertibles.
The black convertible top looks original, and beneath is a full
black interior. It not only gives you the ultra-desirable
triple-black appearance (paint, roof, and interior), but this one
also shows a well-done preservation. The main components are
believed to be original, and while these MGBs are known for
inexpensive replacement parts, there's no need to update things
like the bucket seats when they look this good. Even details like
the courtesy light is still working. And because the LE is a
premium convertible, you even have features like the correct
dealer-installed air conditioning unit (it will need servicing to
blow cold again.) There are more nice stock pieces, like the
armrest center console, Smiths gauges, and the Limited Edition
glovebox plaque. But because this classic also likes being a better
modern drive, you also have the right well-placed upgrades. There's
a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel for proper grip, and the
AM/FM/CD stereo w/aux input gives you the best in upgraded driving
music.
The engine bay has a great vintage look, right down to the correct
Zenith carburetor. In fact, this 1.8-liter motor's date code is
correct for us to believe this is the original powerhouse. More
than just originality, you'll like this engine because it fires up
with the kind of confidence that reaffirms the car's feeling of
proper care. The four-speed manual transmission gives you good
control over the full power package. And speaking of control, this
MGB's nimble handling, power brakes, front discs, and modern
Firestone Firehawk tires make for a very sharp sports car.
Complete with owner's manual and service manuals, this is the
mixture of originality, care, and features you've been looking for.
