Vehicle Description
Even in the mid-1960s, it was still true: when you "arrived," you
did it best in a Cadillac. This DeVille Convertible is
all-original. The paint meter shows the paint to be original to the
car with well preserved interior & engine bay. Numerous trophy wins
are included with the purchase.
Made during the third week of July 1966, this big two-door droptop
is dressed in Flamenco Red (code 48) with a black, power-folding
vinyl top (code 2). The paint and trim are in overall very good
order. The bodywork is straight and solid, the car's big chrome
bumpers fit tightly to the body. The black, power-folding vinyl top
is in overall very good order. There is a new SuperStart battery,
the car's engine bay is very tidy and the trunk is in good
order.
This big cruiser rolls on Michelin radials, size 235/75R15 at every
corner. Each tire is mounted on a steel wheel topped with a factory
wheel cover. The tires and wheel covers are all in very good
order.
Under the big, counterbalanced hood is a 429 CID V-8 engine backed
by a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission and a
3.21:1 rear end. Driver convenience features include
air-conditioning, power variable-ratio, recirculating-ball
steering, power disc/drum brakes, power windows and power locks.
Other options included Soft-Ray glass (code E), power ventilation
windows (code N) automatic climate control, (code K) and six-way
power front seats (code Y).
Inside is a Medium Red Leather interior (code 388). The front and
rear bench seats are in overall great shape with fold-down center
armrests. A three-spoke steering wheel faces the driver. The
vehicle's instrument panel and inner door liners are all in very
good order. A column-mounted shifter and a factory AM radio
completes the interior.
In 1966, changes included a somewhat coarser mesh for the radiator
grille insert, which was now divided by a thick, bright metal
horizontal center bar housing rectangular parking lamps at the
outer ends. Separate rectangular cornering lamps replaced the
integral grille extension designs. There was generally less chrome
on all Cadillac models this year. De Ville scripts were still above
the rear tip of the horizontal body rub moldings. Cadillac crests
and V-shaped moldings, front and rear, were identifiers. Cadillac
"firsts" this season included variable ratio steering and optional
front seats with carbon cloth heating pads built into the cushions
and seatbacks. Engineering improvements made to the perimeter frame
increased ride and handling ease. Newly designed piston and oil
rings and a new engine mounting system and patented quiet exhaust
were used.
Documentation includes original owner's manual and warranty book
with protect-o-plate.
Competition to this Cadillac in 1966 included Buick's Electra 225
Convertible, Cadillac's own Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible,
Chrysler's 300 Convertible, Dodge's Coronet 500 Convertible,
Imperial's Crown Convertible, Lincoln's Continental Convertible,
Mercury's Park Lane Convertible and Oldsmobile's 98
Convertible.
If you collect Cadillacs or American luxury cars in general, this
DeVille Convertible would make a worthy addition to your fleet.
