For Sale: 2001 Saab 9-3 in St. Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

Made in Saab's Trollhattan, Sweden location in March 2001, another Thunderbolt has arrived at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. This example is one of 1,251 Viggens made in 2001; one of 1,152 Viggens imported into the United States and one of 738 Viggen convertibles imported into the US in 2001.

Finished in black (code 170), this car's paint and trim are in overall very good condition, the body is straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy and the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the rest of the car.

This Viggen rolls on Fuzion HR1 radials, size 205/45R17 at all four corners. Each one is mounted on a factory, five-spoke alloy wheel. The tires and wheels are all in good, original condition.

As per usual, this Viggen has Saab's 2.3L 16-valve, DOHC engine underhood (code B235R), running at a 9.3:1 compression ratio, fitted with Nimonic valves and a Garrett GT17 turbocharger. The engine uses Saab's Trionic 7 management system, has a higher capacity intercooler, performance-tuned ECU, flow-through muffler and tip, stiffer gearbox casing and stronger output shaft, a heavy-duty clutch and pressure plate, stiffened and lowered springs with revised spring rates, firmer dampers and stronger CV joints and driveshafts. Backing this motor is a five-speed manual transmission with an electronic torque-sensing function to prevent damage to the gearbox.

Driver convenience features include electronic climate control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors, power front seats with heat and memory settings and cruise control.

Safety equipment includes dual front airbags, side airbags, anti-lock brakes and traction control.

Inside, the car's black (code 170) interior is in overall very good condition. The seats and carpet look good, as does the four-spoke steering wheel. The inner door panels and dashboard are in overall very good order, as are the console and shift lever. A factory AM/FM stereo with multiple accessories and ancillary features.

Between 1999 and 2002, Saab offered a limited edition and higher-performance version of the 9-3. The 'Viggen' (English: Thunderbolt) is named after the Saab 37 Viggen aircraft and was developed by Saab with input from the Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) Group.

The Viggen production car draws upon the earlier Saab 900 Concept Coupe that had been developed by the Saab Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) group. For Saab, the team was led by Peter Leonard and John-Gustav Gudmundsson. Only 4,600 9-3 Viggen specification cars were produced.

Competition to this Saab in 2001 include: Audi's TT Roadster, BMW's Z3, Honda's S2000, Mercedes-Benz SLK 320 and Porsche's Boxster.

If you're a Swedish car fan, a Saab fan or just looking for a an almost classic droptop, check out this Saab 9-3 Viggen. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check this one out for yourself.
