Vehicle Description
The model year 1969 was an end of an era for Chevrolet, Corvette,
and the American automobile as a whole. This single year was the
high point in Corvette performance for the classic era. Since the
Corvette's inception, the horsepower and displacement had increased
almost every year. By 1969, the Mark IV big block had grown to 427
cubic inches, and while the displacement would increase to 454 in
1970, the horsepower and performance would never again reach 1969
levels again until the modern era ZR-1 of 1990. There were two
small block engine options, and five (six if you count the
unlisted, ultra rare all aluminum ZL1) big blocks ranging in power
from 300HP for the base 350CI to the fire breathing 500+HP of the
L88 and ZL1 engines. The L88 and ZL1 engines were in reality,
slightly detuned race engines meant for buyers who intended to race
the car more than street drive it. If you wanted the most powerful
and lightest engine you could daily drive, your weapon of choice
was the aluminum headed, 427CI L89 V-8. This was a cast iron,
4-bolt main block with forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods,
solid lifter camshaft, 11:1 compression, aluminum cylinder heads
with dual valve springs, aluminum intake manifold, and triple
two-barrel Holley carburetors. All these high-performance
components resulted in an engine that was approximately 80 pounds
lighter than the L71 427 and made 435 horsepower with an earth
twisting 460 lb. ft. of torque. The stunning Fathom Green coupe
listed here is one of just 390 L89 equipped Corvettes produced in
1969. Fathom Green was the top selling color for Corvettes in 1968
and 1969, and once you lay eyes on this beauty you will understand
why. The curvaceous lines of the shark bodied C3 are some of the
best in the history of GM design with svelte chrome bumpers,
polished fender vent trim, redline tires, and polished side pipes
make this Vette' a mouth wateringly pretty automobile. The saddle
tan vinyl interior offsets the dark green exterior beautifully and
is in excellent original condition. The factory glass is optionally
soft ray tinted, and this Corvette is factory equipped with the
AM/FM stereo option which was a nice upgrade over the standard mono
speaker radio. Under the hood the beast that lurks within is
connected to the correct CY code Turbo Hydramatic automatic
transmission. Power goes back to the optional high performance 3.36
rear axle with Positraction. Four wheels power disc brakes give
this mean machine stopping power to match its forward thrust
capabilities. This classic Corvette has been lovingly cared for by
its current owner of 20+ years and is in need of nothing more than
a new garage to call home. This is a rare opportunity to own a
beautiful, high-performance Corvette that is sure to appreciate in
the years to come. Contact Brian at 352-307-1968 and take this
