since completion Dubbed the "Full Force Trans Am," this
award-winning Pontiac Resto Mod began life as a factory Turbo Trans
Am and its given moniker is deliberately impactful. This isnt an
exercise of bringing a gun to a knife fight, this modified F-body
is an atomic bomb contending against a slingshot. Schwartz
Performance in Woodstock, Illinois, executed this Manhattan Project
Pro Touring build at an estimated cost of $300,000, and its evident
that the funds were not misappropriated. The professional ground-up
build incorporated a custom Schwartz Performance G-Machine
full-length frame to accommodate the uncanny drivetrain upgrade. In
keeping with the spirit turbo-aspiration, a massive
twin-turbocharged and fuel-injected 6.9L LS9 V-8 engine with
dry-sump lubrication was installed and is rated at a whopping 1,300
horsepower, a nearly 650 percent increase over the 1981 factory
rating of 201. Air is fed through twin 4-inch aluminum intakes with
Spectre filters and spent gases exit via custom exhaust manifolds
3-inch stainless tubing. A Be Cool aluminum radiator with dual SPAL
fans handle cooling duty admirably. The mill is mated to a Bowler
4L85E automatic transmission with overdrive and is paired with a
custom driveshaft connected to a Winters aluminum rear end with
Moser full-floating hubs and axles and Wavetrac 3.70 gears.
Handling and maneuverability are boosted with power steering and
RideTech triple-adjustable coilover shocks on all four corners
while a Baer Extreme-Plus brake setup with 14-inch cross-drilled
rotors and 6-piston calipers provide substantial whoa for all of
the added go. The heightened performance is coalesced with an
aesthetic that is visceral without betraying the cars roots. The
hood with special off-center bulge is graced with a Red eagle
design with a huge 6.9L Turbo emblem and custom-built Forgeline
snowflake-style wheels are painted to complement the avian artwork.
The interior features Procar Scat Rally 1000 leather bucket seats,
a RideTech stainless Tiger Cage roll bar, Vintage Air Gen IV magnum
air conditioning unit and a special engine-turned gauge panel. The
finished fire-breathing product is has been met with critical
acclaim, earning a litany of awards including Popular Hot Roddings
coveted "Muscle Car of the Year" title in 2013. With only 2,200
miles driven since completion, the Full Force Trans Am is loaded
with power, lacking in subtlety and champing at the bit to take
flight.
