For Sale: 1971 Datsun 510 in Kentwood, Michigan

Vehicle Description

This 1971 Datsun 510 is a modified Brock Racing Enterprises tribute to the #46 two time SCCA B Sedan
Series Champion driven by John Morton. The car is powered by a 2.0 liter L20 inline-four engine equipped
with a BRE intake, dual side-draft Mikuni carburetors, and a dogleg 5-speed manual gearbox with a
limited slip differential. Wide-body fender flares and a Trans Am-style front splitter were added. Projector
headlights feature HID bulbs, and the body was painted and fitted with BRE tribute decals and the #46
livery some time ago. Documentation and our research indicates that this work was done in the early
2000's. The car was held for over 16 years by a Datsun collector and enthusiast from Whittier, CA. The car
changed hands in 2013.
Since then, it has undergone mechanical sorting and safety upgrades and has been used sparingly. BRE-
inspired paint and livery have been applied to the body, which has been flared and fitted with a front
splitter. Wilwood brakes and adjustable coilovers were added, and interior modifications include a roll
cage, bucket seats, harnesses, and a Nardi steering wheel. The Wilwood disc brakes are equipped with
four-piston calipers in front and two-piston calipers in the rear with braided stainless steel brake and
clutch lines.
The L20 inline-four is equipped with a BRE intake and remote oil filter adapter, dual side-draft
Mikuni/Solex carburetors, a large capacity radiator, a Magnaflow muffler, and an MSD 6A ignition system.
AN fittings with braided stainless lines were used, a new strut tower brace was added, and the valve
cover was powder coated. A dyno sheet viewable in the gallery indicates 132 horsepower at the wheels,
after the car was mechanically freshened in 2016. Blake spoke Libre wheels are equipped with Toyo RA1
tires. The adjustable coilover suspension includes upgraded sway bars, adjustable front control arms,
and Roll Center Adapters on the front suspension with polyurethane bushings utilized throughout.
Mechanically, the car is a blast to drive. It pulls strong in all gears, shifts smooth and brakes straight. It is
quick an nimble while giving good feedback to the driver. The car is street legal, and said it has never
been raced.
Datsun 510 2 door sedans are rare and the market for these cars are on fire. The example here is a high-
quality tribute car with really nice BRE bits and mechanical upgrades. Drive it around town and to your
favorite track or autocross event. What a great show piece to dress up any collection. Documentation
includes Owners manual, service receipts, dyno sheet etc.
