History
There was a time when the F1 world champion's single-seater was relegated to the lower division, in the cadet formula, ending up soundly beaten by the younger, more agile and comfortable competitors.
And all this happened not a century ago, but during the 1985 season, in a strange, very original and absolutely worthy of being remembered context.
At the end of 1983 the fleet of F1 cars and engines was laid up and work was done to find an intelligent way to recycle everything.
Nothing better than killing the old and beloved F.2, giving life to the new category called F3000, from the engine capacity of the iconic Ford Cosworth, the backbone of the new cadet formula.
Free chassis and the possibility of running the old F1s with naturally aspirated engines, but with a rotation speed limited to 9000 rpm.
The 1985 European Formula 3000 season, initially scheduled for 11 races, was actually held in only 10. 14 teams took part with 33 drivers and represented the debut of this glorious category.
Thanks to its excellent balance, the March 85B was the car to beat in the inaugural F3000 season which saw Christian Danner triumph at the wheel of a privately entered example.

This March 85B -16 is complete with all its mechanical and body parts.
The car participated with the n. 21 at the first Formula 3000 Championship in 1985, driven by Juan Fangio II, grandson of the motoring legend.
Among his best placings are two sixth places on the circuits of Pau and Spa-Francorchamps.
