For Sale: 1980 MG MGB in Stratford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

Sensational original car, two owners (both in Southern Virginia), 79,000 original (`actual` on title) miles, `Limited Edition` with all appropriate insignia, last owner`s son told us his parents had driven the car around 150 miles during the past eighteen years. And sitting in their garage since 2012.

Body and original paint are essentially flawless in black (which tends to show every flaw), excellent tan interior, new convertible top, as a `Limited Edition,` has the five spoke alloy wheels and side stripe, excellent rust free floors, excellent trunk with original paint, close to spotless engine bay, even has all of the original smog equipment. Tires appear to be near new, has an ancient cassette radio (always a good indicator of having never been owned by `a kid,`), spare wheel is a `LE` alloy wheel, original jack, very little wear and tear on anything.

We did a compression check, 150 psi in every cylinder, zero smoke, 70-75 psi oil pressure....all of these are essentially the same as when new. As is the paint and so much else. Very impressive.

As one of the last MGBs built, the factory added a healthy number of improvements: front AND rear sway bars, larger radiator, thermostatically controlled electric radiator fans, more effective heater, bigger and better gauges, clock (and it works), power assist for the disc braes, electronic ignition, all in all, a far more sophisticated car compared to earlier MGBs.

Dunno.....I am tempted to leave this car exactly as it is, almost like a museum piece. But, of course, we can add (for a prospective buyer): a complete chrome bumper conversion, new Weber 32/36 DGV carb with electric choke, tubular racing style headers, lower to pre 1975 ride height, burled wood dash, thicker front sway bar, modern stereo, on and on. As is or when done, a wonderful classic sports car.

NOTE: look at car 1980-37 to see what this car would look like IF we did one our elaborate conversions. For a cold weather destination, we can install a powerful auxiliary heater and for a hot weather location, modern a/c. And the a/c units we install have a heater built in.
