Very well maintained example, last owner for many years, 82,000 original miles (do the match, 1,900 miles a year), excellent body, floors, chassis, sills, beautiful maroon paint, excellent tan interior, wood dashboard and steering wheel, modern stereo.
We did a compression check and found 155-160 psi in every cylinder, 65+ psi oil pressure when warm, no smoke, and excellent running. Has a new convertible top, wiring and electrics are in good condition, AND:
We performed a comprehensive chrome bumper conversion, new bumpers, new Mk I grille, new sheet metal and lights, we even eliminated the side lights and welded metal into the holes, matched and blended paint on all four corners.
What we didn`t so are the things a propsective buyer can pick and choose. Options such as wheels (alloy, MG Special wheels, or wire wheels), and carbs.....leave the stock carb in place OR change to twin SUs or a Weber carb.
A HUGE virtue of this car is perfect working overdrive, something fitted to under 15% f MGBs and something that frequently simply doesn`t work. But what a nice luxury, get up to 70 mph, kit the switch on the shift knob and watch the revs drop.
This car is our least expensive chrome bumper conversion, our least expensive overdrive car, and IF the add ons are of little importance, this car could be ideal.
(a note about these later MGBs...they have bigger and better radiators and better cooling systems, electronic ignition, stronger transmission and back axle, bigger and more reliable gauges, front and rear sway bars, better wipers, on and on)
