The S8 is the high-performance version of the Audi A8 forebear, featuring Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system as standard.
The 2005 restyling brings the new "single frame" grille already seen on the W12 and new direct injection petrol engines. The 2006 sports S8 mounts the powerful 450 HP 5.2 V10 of Lamborghini origin, stiffer suspensions, larger rims and ceramic brakes.
It can be considered "fabulous" for its impeccable finishes, for its exaggerated performance, and also for its excellent price/performance level.
The S8 is very fast in all conditions, reaching a “very” self-limited 250 km/h and covering 0/100 km/h in 5.1 seconds; the 6-speed Tiptronic gearbox is also excellent which, with the "sport" selection, delays shifting; Braking is also great. Finally, the S8 is all in all easy to handle despite its impressive size and mass.
The set-up lives on the compromise between comfort and convenience: in essence, it is less comfortable than other cars of that price level, but at the same time it does not give the sensations of a real "sports car". The carbon finishes inside, in a context full of electric servomechanisms and luxury, contribute to making it the right choice "for those who can't afford a work car and a leisure car", but who can still afford a cars of this level.
