Vehicle Description
Longtime Corvette plant manager Wil Cooksey was known for his
passion for the storied vehicle. A member of the Corvette Hall of
Fame and as enthusiastic a brand ambassador as there ever was, he
was thoroughly liked by his workers during his tenure, while also
known to conduct on-the-spot evaluations of his plant's output that
would, at times, result in a given part getting tossed when Wil saw
something that just didn't pass muster. To commemorate his
retirement, his crew got together to create a special edition
Corvette model bearing a one-of-a-kind color combination, unique
wheels and special interior appointments. This 2008 Chevrolet
Corvette Z06 Wil Cooksey Edition is the result of their inspiration
and efforts.
Because of its great looks, one could scarcely go wrong with a Z06
in ANY configuration, but the special edition touches, namely the
outstanding Crystal Red Metallic exterior that's ornamented by a
tapered black stripe down the center of its hood with commemorative
"427" on each side, really DID turn out to be as exceptional as
those loyal crew members had intended. It's on great display here,
as this 'Vette has been extremely well protected over its lifetime.
With that care, and the aid of barely perceptible layers of paint
protectant film on its front end and rear fenders, accounting for
its darn-near museum-quality appearance. Every bit a worthy
contender to its European counterparts both in terms of aesthetics
and sheer power, this really is a great looking, refined car. The
exterior is all about graceful curvature - even the side mirrors
look as if they've been sculpted - and the combination of its
ultra-aerodynamic presence and slight incline from front to back,
as if coiled to strike, gives it the appearance of moving at a high
rate of speed even when standing still.
The special edition black and gray interior appears as if it has
seldom seen occupants, showing almost no wear at all. Surprisingly
roomy and very comfortable even if it weren't a sports car, this is
a great driver's environment. The high-backed, two-tone buckets
have deep bolsters to hold you in place while attacking corners,
and a low-slung shifter sits within easy reach in an inspired
center console accented with carbon fiber that matches the
exterior. All the comfort-forward options you'd want are right
here, including a climate control system still very much at the top
of its game, a steering column that both telescopes and tilts,
cruise control, heated power seats and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD system
that also features Satellite Radio and AUX connectivity. The trunk
area in back is impressively clean and lined with an unwrinkled and
unstained swath of gray carpeting, matching the floor mats up front
that bear custom '427' logos.
No mere icon, this is a world-class performer. The 427-cubic inch
V8 engine (aka the 7.0L) underneath that lengthy hood carries no
less than 505 horsepower. Connected to a Tremec 6-speed manual
transmission, the powerplant endows this 'Vette with spectacular
abilities - clocking well under 4.0 seconds from 0-60, a sub
12-second quarter-mile time and a top speed of just under 200mph.
By any measure, rarified air. You'll notice the custom dipped
covers in the engine bay adding a splash of flair, but if you
prefer, the stock originals also come with the car. This
show-stopping American sports car sits on a set of special edition
Spider polished aluminum wheels - 18" in front, 19" in back -
outfitted with staggered 275/35/18 front and 325/30/19 rear
Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.
