Vehicle Description
1976 Cadillac Fleetwood Talisman Brougham
For consignment, a very rare example from the luxury brand Cadillac
with a mere 1,200 made for the 1976model year, which is the final
year of the Talisman's 3 year run. While The Fleetwood Brougham was
the flagship of Cadillac sedans, there is nothing that can touch
the elegance, prestige, and pure luxury of the Talisman. With its
unique vinyl roof pattern, wire spoke wheel covers, Talisman
emblems throughout, and the ultra plush Medici cloth interior this
Fleetwood is a statement above all others. Inside it features twin
captains chairs in front with a center console, writing table, pen
placement and special lighting. The ultra plush velour is on the
seats, trim and door panels. In the back there are magazine
holders, and thicker carpeting. 1976 never looked so good, and this
Caddy DeVille is a styling example of mid 1970's excess. Queue the
stairway descent!
Exterior
Correct Sable Black paint covers the expansive body work of this GM
cabin cruiser with straight large steel slabs, complete with some
nice brite-work trimmings on the rockers, trim spears, and window
surrounds with beautiful Caddy script style badging. A few areas of
paint blistering are noted in the finish along with some rust
bubbling at the base of the roof. The front of the car lets this
know you've arrived with a large and in charge chromed egg crate
grille with a dividing V shaped front bumper, and rectangular
design dual headlights. Big panels adorn and make up this car and
they are all straight and true with well minded gaps. The rear has
the iconic vertical bezel chrome tail lights which flank a massive
trunk lid, that has more tail lights below and a clean integrated
rear bumper below all this luxury design. Throw on 4 doors,
carriage lamps on the C-pillars, and miles of bright stainless trim
wrapping the long long roof with uniquely patterned and padded
Sable Black vinyl, and we now add even more class to this wonderful
cruiser. Some medium-wide white sidewalls adorn Caddy wire wheel
covers, and we can say we are lookin' over all really fine.
Interior
Recliner-likeblack Medici broadcloth fabric covers the pillow top
front bucket seats. These sit within black plastic buckets with
plenty of chrome trimmings. A central armrest in heavily padded
black cloth can be folded forward to produce a writing station with
its own courtesy lamp. Power movements for the front seats lets you
get it just right baby bear. These buckets shows as nearly new with
just a touch of color fade to the driver's cushions. A big rear
bench stretches from panel to panel and also sports a central fold
down armrest and center divider. Black molded door panels house
power windows, locks and a mirror toggle. These have a nice wood
applique for accenting surrounded by tufted black Medici cloth and
black thick pile carpet panels on the bottoms of them. We note the
driver's door is missing an applique section, but very few other
faults exist. A square and rectangle design dash in black and wood
applique shows as original as well as the tri-pointed star steering
wheel inset with wood applique center trim panel. Nice clean deep
pile black carpet floods the floors and is just begging for a
tussling by my well manicured tootsies. Hovering above is a faded
but tightly installed black broadcloth headliner with no marks or
errors.
Drivetrain
All 500 cubic inches rest comfortably within this unrestored engine
bay. A 4-barrel carburetor is atop and on the back resides the
original TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. Way in the back, a
12 bolt 2.73 geared rear axle is in charge of turning the tires.
The overall visual condition of the engine bay can be described as
original and unrestored.
Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust is seen one the frame and suspension parts,
as well as the crossmembers, but the floorpans remain rust free
thanks to the factory undercoating. All remains structurally sound
and a newer fuel tank has been put on along with a stock style
single exhaust system with a stock replacement muffler and
resonator. Providing that cushy plush ride is an independentcoil
spring front suspension with power disc brakes that works in
conjunction with a power rear drums and a 4 link and coil spring
arrangement.
Drive-Ability
The engine starts up quick with little struggle, and off to our
test track, where this car performed to our standards with good
acceleration which was smooth. The automatic transmission worked
nicely, and brakes brought the car to a quick stop. Functions were
all in working condition, and I took the back seat while my crack
decoder and chauffeurhandled the wheel duties...and yes, the carpet
is just as plush as it looks, so say my wriggling piggies.
Save for some undercarriage surface rust, this car is a very nice
and very rare example of the 1976 version of the Fleetwood
Talisman, the Broughamiest of the Broughams one might say. Well
maintainedand ready to haul you and your friends for a night on the
town or maybe enjoy this great skate to take on a vacation to
Boca!
