Vehicle Description
1996 Chevrolet S10 Pickup
The Chevrolet pickup truck is a hallmark of American culture that
spans generations. The S10 is no exception; What it lacks in size,
it makes up for with performance and unique character. It's a
legendary representation of the unique origins of compact Chevy
pickups. The first S-10 made its debut in 1982, a compact pickup
that would accumulate a faithful fan base over time. The original
generation of S10s featured two different engines; A 2.5L with
105hp or a V6. The trucks were 2-wheel drive when the legacy began
and would be offered in 4x4 versions the following year. At the
time, four-wheel drive trucks were becoming increasingly popular in
America.
For consignment, a 1996 S-10 2 wheel drive pickup from the bowtie
company. This one remains rust free, has a new AC compressor and
provides some eye-catching looks with its miles deep paint,
tastefully applied stripes and snappy wheels. Let's get our Chevy
groove on, Like A Rock.
Exterior
Our black example retains its shine and shows nicely without any
rust or dents. The flaws in the finish are unremarkable and the
deepend of the pool paint provides the perfect backdrop for the
painted on silver SS style stripes. Rectangular headlights and
wedge shaped corner lights reside within a blingy chrome grille.
Just below is a body matching steel bumper and black plastic lower
air dam. Chrome is kept to a minimum, encompassing the earlier
mentioned bowtie wearing grille surround and non original SS
badging on the lower front quarters and tailgate. Black accenting
is also noted with some door trimmings, side view mirrors, and door
handles. Taking up the back is a black vinyl bed cover which hides
the drop in plastic bed liner underneath. The tail view shows us
tall wrap-around tail lights, the silver striped gate and a smooth
black roll pan below. 15-inch drilled and polished aluminum
American Racing wheels are wrapped with 225/60R15 raised white
letter rubber from the 5th week of 2022.
Interior
Behind the lightly tinted glass are gray molded plastic panels with
black actuators and cranks as well as a diagonallystriped gray
broadcloth inserts. Below all of this are dual map pockets and the
factory speakers. The original GM dash continues with more use of
the gray molded plastic accenting for the dash front surrounds,
mixed with black molded inserts for the instrument cluster, factory
AM/FM/Cassette stereo and climate control dials. More diagonally
striped gray broadcloth is covering body hugging buckets with their
halo style headrests and a fold down armrest is between the seats.
Gray carpeting is flooding the floors and presents with some light
soiling and color fade. The long armed black shifter resides on the
carpeted hump along with a dual cupholderequipped consolette. Above
a large gray fuzzy broadcloth headliner covers the interior
ceiling.
Drivetrain
A factory 2.2Liter 4 cylinder sits in an original unrestored engine
bay. This has EFI and is sporting a new air conditioning
compressor. Bolted to the back of this mill is a T5 5-speed manual
transmission for those of us who like rowing the oars. 10 bolt is
the axle designation and all under the hood is looking very nice
and freshly detailed.
Undercarriage
Surface rust coats most of the untreated steel on this
undercarriage, although it remains structurally sound. Rockers and
floor pans are rust free and a factory style single exhaust snakes
its way rearward. Power disc brakes are in front, and power drums
on the back. Suspension is independent coil spring up front and
leaf spring on back.
Drive-Ability
This truck and it's2.2 liters fired right up and driving was a
pleasure. All comfy on the ergonomic front for the interior, smooth
acceleration and nice cornering. Fully functional, fully capable
and fully enjoyable...2 thumbs up!
A well cared for and nicely presented example of a S10 with a
economical 2.2 liter engine. A nice striped broadcloth interior and
reliable powertrain will have you smiling as you go down the road,
of course all the while hauling your cargo.
