This1994 Ford Mustang Indianapolis 500 Cobra Pace is finished in
Rio Red and featured a Saddle convertible top with a heated glass
rear window. Exterior details include Cobra fender badges, a rear
spoiler with an integrated taillamp, dual exhaust outlets, and a
Cobra-specific front bumper cover with circular fog lamps. It
features Polished 17? five-spoke Cobra wheels feature black-painted
pockets and are mounted with 255/45 Kumho Ecsta ASX tires. Stopping
power is provided by four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with
Cobra-branded front calipers. The cabin features power-adjustable
front sport seats upholstered in Saddle Indy leather with Indy-500
winged tire logos embroidered in the backrests. Amenities include
air conditioning, cruise control, a Mach 460 audio system with a CD
player, Cobra-embroidered floor mats, and power windows, mirrors,
and door locks. The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames white
instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer
with a 5,800-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit
mechanical odometer shows 707 miles. The 5.0-liter V8 features
electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 240 horsepower
and 285 lb-ft of torque. It was recently serviced which included an
oil change, a coolant flush, and replacement of the air filter.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual
transmission and a solid rear axle with a Traction-Lok
differential. The window sticker shows initial delivery to Warren
Wooten Ford of Cocoa, Florida, as well as factory colors,
equipment, and a total price of $26,845.
1994 was the first year for the fourth-generation Ford Mustang.
These "SN-95" cars were based on an upgraded version of the Fox
Body platform from the previous generation. The 5.0 V8 engine was
also kept but was upgraded for the Cobra by using unique intake
manifolds, cams, fuel injectors, and heads. These changes upped
power from 215 to 240 horsepower.
All these changes helped sales, with Ford selling over 123,000
Mustangs in 1994. It won Motor Trend's Car of the Year honors and
was picked to pace the 78th Indianapolis 500. 1,000 Cobra
Convertibles were produced to celebrate the honor, all of them
built with a Rio Red exterior with Saddle Brown leather interior.
This was the third time the Ford Mustang had paced the Indy 500,
once with the original Mustang in 1964 and the first year for the
Fox Body in 1979.
