In January 1998 in Detroit, the first CLK was presented with a V8 engine, a 4.3-liter from the M113 series.
In September 1999, on the occasion of the first restyling, the range was enriched by the CLK55 AMG version, equipped with a 5.4-litre V8 and capable of delivering up to 347 HP of maximum power, with modified set-up, perforated and self-ventilated disc brakes and AMG Speedshift automatic transmission which automatically selects the most suitable gear.
A practically perfect car on the road and reserved for racing and high-spending users.
The CLK range was offered without further modifications until June 2002, when production definitively ceased.
