For Sale: 1959 Mercedes-Benz 219 Ponton in HARLINGEN, Texas

Vehicle Description

You know this is a Mercedes-Benz. Its front grille is unmistakable. This is a rare car and 1 of about 360 or 10% of Model 219's built in 1959 with a Webasto sliding sunroof which some refer to as a parade top.

This car has the original inline 6-cylinder engine. The engine had some work done about 3 years ago and all six pistons were replaced with genuine Mercedes Benz pistons. Both the carburetor and starter were refurbished about 3 years ago also. Radiator was also repaired, and radiator cap replaced. All four shock absorbers were replaced. Spark plugs and wires and distributor cap were replaced recently. Battery was replaced in March. I have owned car for about 12 years and continue to add lead fuel additive to maintain fuel condition it was engineered to run on. Lead additive is easily found in car part stores.

Car drives very good and has smooth suspension.

Paint is glossy black and in very good condition. Seats are leather and in very good condition with some minor wear on driver side. Wind shield has one small chip that has been repaired. Chrome is in good condition with some imperfections. Gauges and all factory lights (turn signal, brake, headlights, interior light) are working. Tires are new and in great condition.

This car was built in June of 1959 and is one of the last produced. Cars built then would be enhanced as production continued through the year and this has most enhancements with production ending in July 1959.

Car has some interesting features including ash trays on rear doors and front small windows for added ventilation. Chrome circle on steering wheel is used for turning signals. Note car has turning signals on front of car and on top of hood area. Car has also a functioning manual wind-up clock. Picture of wind-up clock is included on listing.

Car has factory feature that flashes both headlights simultaneously. Parking lights can be set for both sides at once or only one side.

New AM/FM Radio and CD player was installed in glove box.

Car includes the original Owner’s Manual and Parts Manual, original jack, spare tire, and some of the original Mercedes-Benz tool kit. You will also get an original 1959 framed advertisement for the Mercedes-Benz Model 219.

There is brake fluid leak in back area, but brakes are functional. I have ordered required seals to address problem. Minimal coolant leak in oil but mechanic feels it is small and poses no problem if car is not a daily driver.

What sets this car apart from others is its eye appeal and overall condition with its exterior paint and interior. Notice sky reflection on exterior paint in pictures. The eye appeal and overall condition of this Mercedes Benz is very good. Car has solid ride.

Clear title will be provided.
