Vehicle Description
We love the CJ5 because it's at the intersection of where the
military-developed Jeeps really began to evolve into the
all-purpose 4x4s we know today. This 1967 Jeep CJ5 is one of the
best examples of that transition. It was given the right
restoration where you'll see it's a cool mix of vintage details and
capability around.
This Jeep started its restoration around five years ago, and there
have only been about 1,500 miles since it was completed. But don't
take that for this being a great museum piece. Instead, this is a
representation of what the early CJs represented. The bright yellow
paint is more vibrant than the military green of the WWII Jeeps,
but the finish still reminds us of a proper Jeep's useful life.
There are fun classic details, like the old Army-style wheels and
side-mounted spare. Even the rear is unique because it's the
old-style one that had room for the Willys name, but since the
company was taken over a few years prior, the tailgate stamping had
not yet been updated but just had a blank where Willys once was (a
little bit of history that Jeep people love to see.) But this one
doesn't just stand on tradition. The tubular side steps and proper
trailer hitch are quite handy. And the newer full Bestop soft top
and doors look fantastic while also being quite useful.
Since we like the way the tan top looks against the yellow paint,
we're quite happy to see the tan seats carry on the distinctive
color combo even with the roof off. In fact, the interior continues
the attitude of the right upgrades added with the updated high-back
comfy buckets seats. In between is a custom center console that
houses an AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth. There's also liner paint
on the floor, Jeep floor mats, handy auxiliary readouts, upgraded
speakers, and a handy roll bar. There are even extras like a rear
seat and bikini top that can be made available with the sale if so
desired. Even with all these upgrades, you still know you're in a
classic Jeep with the dash dominated by the single gauge pod and
the kind of large simple steering wheel that will remind you of an
Army Jeep.
Another cool/classic element of this CJ is under the hood. It's the
Willys Hurricane engine that's based on the Go-Devil motor that
helped win WWII. Most CJ5s don't have this powerhouse, but it is
correct at home in this earlier model. The 134 cubic-inch
inline-four was not about all-out power, but the big reason why the
military chose Willys for manufacturing the wartime was that the
motor provided good torque and was as reliable as an American
soldier. Just like the rest of this Jeep, there have been the right
investments in this powerplant, including a complete overhaul of
the motor. So today this CJ fires up easily, and the rebuilt
three-speed manual transmission shifts with accuracy. With the
proper 4x4 transfer case, this Jeep can still deliver its
go-anywhere attitude.
It's amazing you can get a cool Jeep with this much character all
of this for such a value price. But a deal this nice doesn't wait
for long, call today!
