Vehicle Description
The Cushman company first started in 1903 in Lincoln Nebraska. For
the first three decades, Cushman produced engines for farm
equipment, water pumps and boats. One of their most famous engines
was the Husky, which they introduced in the early 1920s. Cushman
entered the scooter business in 1936 when they introduced the
Auto-Glide scooter. The scooter became very successful during the
Great Depression as it offered people a reliable and inexpensive
means of transportation.
The company continued to grow during World War II when they began
supplying scooters to the United States Military among other
equipment. By 1950 Cushman scooters were top notch machines and
production of their various models rounded to about 15,000 units a
year. Cushman scooters were built in a variety of models and the
Eagle was the most successful and had traditional motorcycle
styling. Not only did they look extremely modern, but they were
easy to operate as well.
Offered here is a 1952 Cushman Eagle Scooter finished in a Yellow
exterior paint with a Black leatherette seat. Powering this Cushman
Eagle is its well-known 318cc Husky 4-stroke single cylinder
engine. This scooter provides plenty of get up and go acceleration
while still maintaining a high MPG rating that Cushman has
previously claimed to be 75 to 100 miles per gallon. This Cushman
Eagle is equipped with a 2-speed manual transmission and hand
shifted lever clutch that is sometimes referred to as a "suicide
shifter". Features included on this scooter are the updated dual
exhaust set up that's typically found on newer models, drum brakes,
dual front suspension springs, luggage rack, storage bag, left side
mirror, dual seat springs, dual footrest pedals, single headlamp,
single taillamp, rear license plate bracket, 9" wheels and Cushman
tube tires measuring 4.75-7.75.
This Cushman Eagle has been restored to a high standard and
presents very well! The work was completed by a collector who
specialized in Cushman scooters, and this is 1 of 3 Cushman Eagles
that we purchased from the collection at the time. Last located in
Texas, this scooter has been well cared for and shows no signs of
being abused. It makes for a great get-a-round cruiser where even a
trip around your neighborhood would be a fun adventure! Thank you
