1956 DeSoto Fireflite Indy 500 Pace Car Convertible
This is a unique opportunity to own an original 1956 DeSoto
Fireflite Indy 500 Pacecar.
And we ourselves are very proud that we can offer you this
extremely rare DeSoto.
Fewer than 400 of these were built!
And in this condition probably a unique rarity in Europe, if not
worldwide!!
In January 1956, DeSoto announced it had been selected to run the
1956 Indianapolis 500 Race.
DeSoto chose a Fireflite convertible with special interior and
exterior finishes.
Like all Fireflite Indy 500 Pace Cars, it features a 330 cu-in with
256 hp Hemi V8
A heavy-duty transmission and stiffer suspension completed the
performance features.
All this then ensured that the Pace Car could reach a top speed of
230 km/h.
Because the Pace Car was never designated as a separate model,
accurate production records do not exist.
But it is believed that less than 400 were produced, and of these
there are probably only about 35 left worldwide today.
The paintwork is in excellent condition and the chrome also has a
deep shine.
The comfortable interior with gold vinyl upholstery and brown
fabric inserts
is also in very good condition and almost as good as new.
The 5.4 liter V8 engine runs well and the automatic transmission
shifts perfectly.
Fitted with white wall tires and beautiful original gold hubcaps
that perfectly match the entire optics, this Desoto looks
great.
