Vehicle Description
Ever wanted to own a car the King of Rock 'n Roll spent some time
riding in? Now's your chance with this 1974 Cadillac Fleetwood
d'Elegance Brougham. Elvis reportedly bought the car and gifted it
to his personal psychic, Ms. Lou Wright.
This example is one of 18,250 copies made in 1974 and was assembled
in General Motors' Detroit, Michigan factory (VIN code Q) during
the first week of April and delivered to Balmer Cadillac in Bay
Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. Later, the car was carefully maintained
at the Celebrity Car Museum in Branson, Missouri.
Dressed in Cotillion White (code 11) with a white Cross-grained
padded roof (code J), the car's paint and trim are in very good
condition, the bodywork is straight and the engine bay is tidy, the
car's chrome bumpers are clean and fit tightly to the body, and the
cargo area is in satisfactory order.
Documentation includes - From her home base in Westminster,
Colorado, Wright wrote a letter to Ron Kirtschell, dated January 6,
1981, to confirm that this car was bought by her using money that
Elvis gave her. The car was titled under Wright's name; it was
bought at Balmer Cadillac and Elvis rode in the car on multiple
occasions. Wright was Elvis' friend and personal psychic from 1973
to 1977, the year Elvis died.
This Cadillac rolls on a mix of older white stripe radials in front
and snow tires in the rear. The tires and factory wheel covers are
all in good, original order, but showing age.
Under the hood is a 472 CID V-8 engine, (VIN code R), mated to a
Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission and 2.93:1
gearing. It came with a lot of options -
air-conditioning(compressor does not engage), cruise control (code
C), power steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks (code
M), power sideview mirrors, power antenna, rear window defroster
(code N), six-way power front bench seat (code V), Soft-Ray tinted
glass (code E), front license plate bracket (code X), theft
deterrent (code AM).
Inside, the car is done in a Dark Terra Cotta Medici Picque cloth
(code 148). The front (with fold-down center armrest) and rear
bench seats are in very good overall shape, with map pockets and
assist handles built into the rear of the front seatbacks. There
are additional assist straps hanging from the headliner, along with
C-pillar mounted reading lights. The matching carpet and headliner
are in satisfactory order, as is the red, three-spoke steering
wheel. The matching instrument panel and inner door liners all look
great, and a column-mounted shift lever and a factory AM/FM stereo
complete the interior.
