During the early 1950s, Ford's Crestline was the company's
top-of-the-range model, supported by the Customline and Mainline
trims. This example has a modern surprise underneath that takes
maximum advantage of what's under the hood. The body, trim, and
underside are highly original and sold as they come
Made in Ford's Dallas, Texas factory (VIN code D) on August 28,
1952, this example is dressed in Sungate Ivory (code L) with a
white, power-folding canvas top. It is one of 40,861 examples made
in 1953. The paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The
bodywork is straight and solid and the chrome bumpers look
fantastic as well as fit tightly to the rest of the body. The
engine bay is in excellent order and there's a rear-mounted spare
tire carrier.
This car rolls on BFG Silvertown wide whitewall tires. Each one is
mounted on wire wheels. All of the tires and wheels are in very
good order. This car also featured a lowered suspension and rides
on a 115-inch wheelbase.
Under the hood is a rebuilt 239 CID Flathead V-8 engine breathing
through dual exhausts. This 24-stud motor has Edelbrock heads and
intake manifold and a upgraded tri-carburetor set-up. The biggest
surprise of this car may be what backs the motor, a modern Tremec
five-speed manual transmission! There's also a 3.90:1 rear end.
Driver convenience features include vintage air-conditioning, power
steering and power brakes. With disc brakes, upgraded up front!
Inside, there is a green and tan interior. The front bench seat is
in great shape as well as the rear. The black carpet is in very
good order. There's a black, two-spoke steering wheel along with a
green, metal dashboard and two-tone inner door panels. Speedo/Odo
is inop. The dash and door panels are in very good order. A
floor-mounted speed shift and a factory AM radio round out the
interior.
The Crestline was updated with minor styling and trim changes for
1953. It retained its position as the top trim level in the Ford
range while body styles and engine availability remained
unchanged.
Convertible competition to this Crestline in 1953 included
Chevrolet's Bel-Air and Plymouth's Cranbrook, plus Dodge's Coronet
Convertible, Mercury's Monterey Custom Convertible, Oldsmobile's
Super 88 Convertible and Pontiac's Chieftain 8 DeLuxe
Convertible.

sleeper. It has had numerous upgrades and the five-speed stick
combined with a modified V-8 engine lends a fun factor to this
