Edsel Ford first introduced the Falcon in 1939 as he worked to
develop a more luxurious car in the Ford offering of cars.
Ultimately, he determined the car did not fit within the Ford
lineup and, instead, the design became known as the Mercury.
Finally introduced in 1960 and produced through the 1970 model
year, Ford's Marketing position of the 1961 Ford Falcon says it
all:
"The lowest priced of all Fords, the 2-door Falcon represents
unrivalled value as a first or second car, Wonderful for the lady
of the house or teenager. Engineered for city, turnpike, and
business driving.".
The car presented at auction is a solid car with a lot to offer.
The 6 cylinder engine has been upgraded with a rebuilt 200ci
Mustang Engine, a new radiator, starter and exhaust, Other
mechanical work done to the car includes a new 3 core radiator,
exhaust and starter. The car runs and drives well and is reported
to be a pleasure to drive. The odometer shows 70,000 miles, but not
confirmed to be accurate.
The body is in good condition and has benefited from a re-paint to
Starlight Blue at some point in its history. The original chrome
bumpers do show light pitting commensurate with the age of the car.
The windshield wipers have been converted to electric.
The interior presents with new carpet as well as new front and rear
seat upholstery. The door panels appear original with wear and tear
based on its age. The Dash presents as original and shows well. The
car has the factory radio delete and the original glass is in good
condition. The trunk of the car shows in good original condition.
The headliner is in need of replacement.
