Vehicle Description
1964 Buick Electra 225 Convertible
VIN: 8K1002462
Introduced in 1959 as the Electra 225, named for the car's 225-inch
length, the big Buick became known as the "Deuce and a Quarter."
The Electra 225 was Buick's top-of-the-line offering at the time.
The second generation of the Electra was produced from 1961-64, and
1964 was the first year for the three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic 400
automatic transmission (a big upgrade from the two-speed Dynaflow).
A 401 cubic inch "Nailhead" V8 was standard equipment. In 1964,
Buick produced approximately 70,000 Electras, with only 7,180
rolling off the assembly line as convertibles.
Back in the early 1970s, the car was originally purchased with
great excitement and and enjoyed for many years. After a few years
went by, when family needs prevailed, the owner sold the car with
great regret. Fast forward to the early 2000's and the exact car
was seen at an auction and acquired by that same owner! The "second
time around" ownership resulted in much joy and a complete high end
restoration. This car, presented at auction, is that stunning
convertible restored to original specifications.
Exceptional body and paint was completed to a very high standard by
Hartford Best Body Work of South Dakota. The car was finished in
the original Wedgewood Blue for a distinctive and regal look. The
bumpers were re-chromed and the original chrome/stainless trip
pieces show very well.
The interior is all new including leather upholstery, correct style
carpet and the correct color convertible top. Interior work was
professional completed by Sioux Falls Upholstery and looks amazing.
The original dash is in excellent condition and all components are
reported to work. The Air Conditioning system was re-furbished for
summer driving comfort when needed. The odometer reflects 117,000
miles, with less than 2000 miles since the restoration was
completed on the car in late 2021/early 2022.
The engine was subjected to a complete rebuild by Sehr Performance
Engine of Sioux Falls. Having been balanced and tuned, the engine
runs exceptionally smooth and powers the car very well. Check out This Video of
the Engine Running! The transmission was completely rebuilt
providing excellent driving performance. The front brakes were
converted to disc for better control.
The owner reports the following items are in need of attention on
the car: 1. The trunk needs finished. All material is there, it
just needs to be installed. 2. The power seat mechanism. 3. The
front running lights.
As reported by Sehr Performance Engine:
Gary Taylor brought us in his Buick Nail head 401 out of his 1964
Buick Electra Convertible. The engine quit running after attempts
to get it running better. Upon disassembly and inspection it was
found that there was several bent pushrods. There were bent
metering rods in the carburetor. Leaking seals, wore parts, and
general engine wear for the age. All engine components was
magnafluxed and found there was no cracks. While interviewing Gary
on the type of level build he wanted everything to be machined,
balanced, and updated to using todays fuel including replacing all
the wore out and failed parts. All engine hard parts were replaced
and updated parts included the torque camshaft, ARP rod bolts,
front and rear main seals, electronic ignition upgrade, Hp HV oil
pump, and stainless steel valves. Gary added the bling package and
the engine Dyno. We properly primed, and broke in the complete
engine. We rebuilt the card and distributor. The engine performed
as expected and was delivered to Gary.
