Vehicle Description
CPR Classic is delighted to offer this lovely 1962 Porsche 356 S
Twin-Grille Roadster that has just finished a complete restoration.
This example remains numbers-matching to include its original
engine, gearbox, and body panels. The original color combination
was Ivory over red vinyl. During the restoration, the decision was
made to change the car's exterior color from Ivory to Light Ivory
and to refinish the interior in full red leather.
This example was purchased by a long-time CPR Client several years
ago as a very straight, fairly rust-free project that was complete,
but in need of a full restoration. The client that purchased this
Roadster has restored a multitude of 356s over the years, many of
which have been sold through CPR after completion. This 62'
Twin-Grille represents his most recently completed example and is
now being offered by CPR Classic.
Upon the arrival of the unrestored project, our client completely
disassembled the car to the tub and stripped it to bare metal.
Necessary metal work was performed and then the car was placed in
heavy primer to prepare it for paint. The undercarriage was also
stripped to bare metal and re-undercoated with the correct textures
and finished in the correct shade of black. The exterior spent
several hundred hours being blocked and scrutinized to ensure a
proper foundation for paint to be applied. Once deemed suitable,
the tub was refinished in single-stage Light Ivory and allowed to
cure.
The car then began assembly and was first made a roller by
installing all of the refinished suspension and braking components.
The matching numbers gearbox was overhauled by Rancho Transaxle and
reinstalled. After partial assembly, the car was sent to K&H
Interiors where a full red leather interior was installed with the
correct square-weave carpet. The matching numbers engine was
overhauled by the client's engine builder and installed in the
car.
The car arrived at CPR partially assembled and we were tasked with
completing the restoration and performing all necessary
sorting.
CPR performed the following work upon arrival of the partially
assembled Roadster:
-Overhauled steering box
-Installed new steering dampener
-Installed restored heater controls, control rods, and guide
tube
-Corrected minor cosmetic issues with engine plating and surface
finishes
-Installed restored heater boxes and exhaust system
-Stripped gas tank to bare metal, refinished in the correct shade
and installed in the car
-Installed correct trunk insulation
-Installed hood and decklid latches and cables
-Installed wiper motors, arms, and blades
-Refit all body panels and glass to ensure factory tolerances
-Installed repainted door jamb covers
-Installed emergency brake housing and cables.
-Sorted all of the vehicle's electrical (ex. lights, turn signals,
switches)
-Installed new interior control knobs
-Sorted all suspension and braking systems. Refinished drums, and
installed new kingpins.
-Installed all body and door plugs
-Installed new tires and wheel covers
-Performed full mechanical setup, sorting, and tuning
-Test drive and break-in miles
Upon completion of the work performed above, we completely
color-sanded and buffed the exterior to remove light imperfections
and prep the car for delivery. The result of the work performed is
a lovely 356 Twin-Grille Roadster that shows exceptionally well and
drives outstandingly. Only 248 Twin-Grilles were produced by
Porsche, and this example now presents an opportunity to own one of
Porsche's rarest 356 models.
If you are in the market for an outstanding Roadster that has just
benefitted from a multitude of restoration work to elevate the car
to the level it shows today, this is a must-consider example.
