Vehicle Description
1929 Buick Roadster
Buick's Silver Anniversary Sport Roadster one of only 6,195 ever
made. This was a crowning jewel of Buick embracing the fashion
salons of Europe.... Beautiful workmanship! VIN 2422514
The 1929 Buick was the Silver Anniversary Buick and according to
the Standard Catalog of American Cars was the first completely
styled by Harley Earl's newly formed General Motors Art & Color
Department. The unique design of the rear window is an example of
Harley Earl's influence. Apparently, GM took color selection very
seriously. A newspaper article from 1929 stated that, "When a
selection is made it is the result of a careful research that
embraces the fashion salons of Europe." This article appeared on
October 19th 1929, just days before the stock market crash that
contributed to the Great Depression. This 1929 Buick was last of
the era that focus on the "fashion salons of Europe."
Buick celebrated its 25th year of automotive production in 1929
Buick's built during the model year were affectionately known as
the "Silver Anniversary" cars. Design elements included flowing
fenders, a sturdy bumper of two or three bars, wooden spoke wheels
with detachable rims, and a Buick nameplate placed on the center of
the radiator. A new dual electric windshield wiper feature and side
cowl ventilators. A mechanical fuel pump replaced the previous
vacuum tank. The new 121 bodies rested on new chassis with the
frame comprised of thicker steel and deeper cross-sections. In the
front were semi-elliptical leaf springs while the rear used a
Cantilever setup. Lovejoy shock absorbers provided support and the
engines now used steel-backed main bearings for the first time.
The 121 model has a 309.6 CID (5.1L) inline-6 with overhead valves,
four main bearings, mechanical valve lifters, and a Marvel
three-jet updraft carburetor. All engines were backed by a
three-speed sliding gear transmission and braking was handled by
mechanical external contracting brakes on all four wheels. Added
turn signals and brake lights have been added for modern day
driving. The front and rear bumpers, the front and rear fenders,
all have the scalloped line design. Rumble seat with arm rest, Golf
bag door, artillery style wood wheels, rear mounted spare, and drum
speedometer.
Seats are in very good condition; the carpet shows some age. All
original gauges. Easy start and runs smooth. Things that go with
sale; Sheet of cowhide, motor with transmission, books, taillight,
points and rotor cap's, water pump kit, car cover, windows, and
metal trunk.
