Vehicle Description
What we've got on the lot now is a real drop-top looker. This 1968
Pontiac GTO is the real deal, with stunning red paint and signature
chrome GTO badging. This is also an authentic GTO, sporting the
signature "42" code right in the VIN numbers. The beneficiary of a
frame-off restoration some years ago and still sporting the
original engine, this GTO has an extra-special flair about it. It
also has a new paintjob, the red paint still looking as if it is
still wet! Pontiac's GTO basically invented the muscle car segment
of the 1960s, fitting a large engine into a lightweight frame for a
ridiculous amount of speed. General Motors redesigned its A-body
line for 1968, with more curvaceous, semi-fastback styling. This
proved to be immensely popular, and by 1968, the GTO had become one
of the industry's biggest sellers. This example is equipped with
the very same engine it came with from the factory, a
numbers-matching 400 C.I. V8 breathing fire through a 4-barrel
carburetor good for around 350hp. All that power gets to the rear
axle through the use of a 3-speed automatic transmission with a
Hurst "T-Grip" shifter, allowing for both smooth cruising and the
ability to do burnouts anytime you like. The correct R-code "Solar
Red" exterior paint was recently redone, looking simply stunning
after being buffed to a brilliant shine. This is the kind of paint
that, although it has been finished, still looks wet to the touch!
A black convertible top compliments that striking red paint nicely.
The interior is just as beautiful, with black vinyl trim and
woodgrain accenting on the dashboard. Bucket seats up front pair
with the added convenience of a center console to make this GTO not
only fast, but also extremely comfortable! Looking out over the
muscular hood reveals a factory hood-tachometer, showing that this
GTO means business. Options fitted to this '68 GTO include power
steering, power brakes, a factory hood tach, dual mirrors, an AM/FM
stereo, factory gauges, a heater + defroster, underdash auxiliary
gauges, hideaway headlights, a convertible top, a rear spoiler, and
a mean-sounding dual exhaust system. The car rides on a sweet set
of American Racing TT wheels over B.F. Goodrich RWL tires for a
look straight out of a Pontiac advertisement of the era. This GTO
is looking for a new home, and we think it would look fantastic
sitting in your garage.
