A couple years back, the 1969 Camaro was named the most significant
Chevrolet of the past 100 years, and when you look at this fully
restored, dropdead gorgeous 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Tribute
Restomod, it's pretty easy to figure out why. With a thumping 383
V8 stroker under the hood, a smooth-shifting automatic
transmission, a few choice options, and a beautifully appointed and
comfortable A/C interior, this Camaro was built to do more than
just look good.
No other car wears racing stripes as well as a vintage Camaro; they
practically define the brand. Originally Code 59 Frost Green, the
color was professionally changed and turned up to '11' when it was
sprayed the gorgeous Cortez Silver it wears now, further punctuated
by the painted-on LeMans style Black stripes. It's an outstanding
choice for this high-performance F-body, accentuating the car's
legendary curves, sharp lines, and crouched profile. Projecting an
image that says it takes no prisoners, the gorgeous paint looks
right on the aggressive RS/SS backdrop, especially with factory
styling upgrades like the front chin spoiler, a Detroit Speed
hide-away headlight package, 2-inch cowl hood, quarter 'gills'
SS-spec ducktail spoiler, and RS-spec taillight/reverse light
set-up in the rear. This car was repainted 3-years-ago and still
looks like a fantastic, high-grade driver today, showing only minor
imperfections that should never stop it from being the center of
attention at car shows. Modern materials and a touch of metallic in
the finish raise the car's curb appeal even further, although we
love that the builders restrained themselves enough to merely
highlight and enhance the original design, not replace it with too
many contemporary tricks. Details like the blacked-out SS grille,
polished rocker moldings, and the fog lights below the front bumper
elevate this Camaro above some of its stripped-down brothers,
creating a wonderful contrast between the race-ready RS/SS gear and
the high-impact color.
Black vinyl upholstery is the perfect choice for a 60s Camaro like
this, and the look is OEM with just a touch of added flash. Like
the exterior paint, the upholstery gives the Camaro a great deal of
style that suits its price point and reminds you why the '69 Camaro
is such an icon. Everything inside appears to be brand new or
completely restored, including the plush black carpets, matching
door panels, and even the dash pad that's completely free of cracks
and blemishes. The factory gauges are all still in place with
crisp, clear markings, including the four white-face units inside
the center console gauge kit, offering the driver all the vital
information regarding the beast under the hood. And speaking of the
center console, it houses an ever-popular horseshoe shifter to
manage the automatic transmission below, and is adorned with the
gorgeous wood applique that warms up the otherwise monotone cabin.
Very upscale, indeed. Aftermarket additions include a
leather-rimmed black billet steering wheel, a modern retro-style
stereo system that fits into the original radio's slot, and a full
Vintage Air A/C unit just above it - meaning it's very easy to get
comfortable for the serious business of driving. The rear seat is
equally impressive and has likely never been used, black rubber
Camaro floormats protect the carpets, while out back the trunk is
surprisingly spacious and protected by a reproduction plaid
mat.
That's a powerful 383 cubic inch V8 stroker motor under the hood
that seemingly puts big block power in a small block package. With
big horsepower to the rear wheels and enough torque to groove the
asphalt, it's definitely got the firepower to match its killer
looks. Many enthusiasts prefer the small block cars for their
superior handling and generally more nimble demeanor, and this
Camaro is no exception. Augmented with Manley aluminum heads and
topped with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and aluminum air-gap
intake, it's breathes easy and delivers quick power up and down the
throttle. It's nicely finished with some chrome dress-up and
correct Chevy Orange paint on the block, along with chrome
Chevrolet valve covers and a big radiator aluminum up front.
Ceramic-coated long-tube headers dump into a killer-sounding H-pipe
dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, and the TH350 3-speed
automatic transmission offers crisp shifts while spinning the
heavy-duty 12-bolt 3.73 posi-traction rear end out back. Rounding
out this car's list of noteworthy attributes are power front disc
brakes, power steering, an upgraded front suspension, and slick
American Racing 'Old Style' Torque Thrust wheels wearing 225/45/17
front and 275/40/17 rear Falken performance rubber.
If you haven't experienced the greatest Chevy of all time, this is
an ideal opportunity to do so, and if your goal is fun, then few
cars will deliver more fun per dollar than this 1969 RS/SS tribute.
