Vehicle Description
1935 Chevrolet Pickup
Chevroletproduced only passenger cars through 1917. The company
introduced its firsttruck modelsin January of 1918 when they came
out with two different four cylinder trucks. This was also the year
thatChevrolet became a part of General Motors. Since that time
Chevrolet has always been a top contender in the American truck
market. Another important note is that Chevrolet did not build the
finished pickup truck between 1918 and 1928. The company provided
the buyer with only thechassis and cowl. A coach maker would be
required to complete the truck body. Buyers would purchase and
install aftermarket bodies during this era. During the middle of
the Great Depression, bothChevrolet and Fordbattled it out in the
passenger truck category. In the year 1935 there weren't a great
many people able to buy a new car or truck. Just like during any
severe financial downturn, people drove what they had for as long
as they could. In many cases this lasted quite a long time.
For consignment, purchased by our consignor in 1993 out in western
PA, and the beneficiary of a 10 year long rotisserie restoration,
nicely painted, and looking like a show piece as well as winning
awards while doing so. Powered by the correct Chevrolet inline 6
cylinder, this nimble mind 30's truck is a nice find, and we are
pleased to have it taking up space in our Hallowed former outlet
mall Halls. We give you the 1935 Chevrolet Pickup. Here, utility
and Art Deco meet up.
Exterior
A two tone color paint job is always adding interest to these
exterior fender vehicles, and this one is definitely an eye
catcher. Our consignor notes that the cab and front fenders are
factory steel and the bed and rear fenders are reproduction metal.
With its Boatswain Blue surrounded shield styled vertical ribbed
grille and curvaceous undulating exterior mounted fenders connected
by a convenient running board, it gives access to the sides of the
bed. These black fenders frame blackwall wrapped wire wheels
painted black with a Art Deco styled bowtie chromed moon cap in the
center. Behind the blue surrounded grille is a blue painted cowled
hood with side venting and a large blue oval badge and the bowtie
designation. This is the final year of the high roof cab design,
and has a clear view out of the glass and has exposed door hinges
and pristine entry handles. A steel sided rolled bed with the
fenders and is nearly perfect in its presentation. Lining the bed
is nice warm oak with metal mounting dividers and a solid steel
tailgate and twin bowtie emblazoned tail lights hovering just above
the bumper. Overall the paint remains very nice with good shine and
depth, but there are areas of hazing, scuffs, inclusions and
bubbling of the finish.
Interior
In keeping with the excellent yet utilitarian theme, a simple black
vinyl bench is sitting on a wooden blue painted box structure. Blue
painted wood flooring is covering all the lower surfaces and
Boatswain Blue steel with 3d embossed ribbing making an appearance.
These create a nice field for the door actuator and window crank to
play within and show off their shine. A simple black metal dash has
a trio of gauges in the center and these are original that have a
very nice aged warm tone to them. The big bakelite steering wheel
is fronting this dash, meanwhile covering the pillars and
headlining is black cardboard lining that islooking just fine.
Drivetrain
Under the cowls is a beautifully restored and detailed green block
206.8ci inline 6 cylinder engine. This mill is finished in a
lightly patined gray, has an oil bath air cleaning system covering
the single 1-barrel carburetor, and the black painted intake
manifold on the side of the block. An original 3-speed manual
transmission is on, and this throws power rearward to a 4.11
axle.
Undercarriage
A meticulous restoration has yielded a showroom undercarriage with
pristine metal framing, body hangers, and suspension parts all with
some light road dirt from usage. All bathed in a semi gloss black
we note leaf spring suspension fore and aft along with mechanical
drum brakes. Simplicity in its C-channel frame design, the cab
floors and the underside of the wood bed along with the running
board mounts are all looking very good.
Drive-Ability
This truck started quickly, and ran like a champion good looking
award winning truck it truly purports to be. Good handling, and the
mechanical drums are strong stoppers. Smooth effortless shifting
gives the driver that 30's wonderful transmission whine you get
when accelerating up through the gears.
A great looker, simple but elegant interior, beautiful looking and
running drivetrain, and near perfect oak lined bed, what else can I
say but get here fast, as a truck in this condition will not be
here very long!
