The Cadillac Sixty Special name has been used by Cadillac to denote
a special model since the 1938 Harley Earl-Bill Mitchell-designed
Series 60 derivative. The Sixty Special name would soon be
synonymous for some of Cadillac's most luxurious vehicles, and was
offered as a four door sedan and briefly as a four door hardtop
only.
1960 Cadillacs saw a new rear fin design, a cleaner side-trim
design and a rear "grille" design shared with Eldorado. New for
1960 was a standard vinyl roof covering, and the small chrome
"louvers" returned (first seen in 1942, last seen in 1956) mounted
on the rear fenders, just ahead of the tail lights. Power steering
and brakes were standard.
The car presented at auction is a life-long Billings, Montana Car.
Bought new by a school principal and his wife, the Cadillac was
driven and owned with pride for many years. At some point around
1990, the car was parked for the last time beside their house.
Acquired circa 2005, the car was brought gently back to life. The
original 390 V-8 was prepped following a complete fuel system
cleaning and fluid changing, a fresh battery installed, the key was
turned and the strong motor roared to life! Brakes were adjusted
and the Fleetwood was on the road again. The car does run and
drive.
Everything on the car, with the exception of the new interior, is
original. A budget paint job was applied at some point in its life
which is showing it's age and wear. The body exhibits rust above
the driver's side rear fender. Some body damage is present on the
drivers side doors and front fender. Replacement Chrome Louvres,
front eyebrow trim and drivers side headlight housing is included
with the car. All chrome is present with the car. Interior and
exterior chrome is showing pitting.
The interior is new including the carpet, seat upholstery, door
upholstery, rear package tray and headliner. The dash is original
and in need of repair/replacement. Most dash components work with
the exception of the clock and the heater blower motor. The
electric windows work. A modern radio was installed along with new
rear speakers. The original radio with bezels and knobs are in the
trunk. The factory A/C components are present, but the belt was
removed prior to current ownership. New tires were installed around
2015, and four matching hubcaps are with the car.
This distinctive hardtop sedan, the pinnacle of Cadillac Luxury,
can be enjoyed as presented(with some TLC) or is a perfect
candidate for a body restoration!
This car to be collected from Billings, Montana.
