Vehicle Description
1982 Lincoln Town Car Sedan
The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans
that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the American automaker
Ford Motor Company from 1980 to 2011. Deriving its name from a
limousine body style, the Town Car first appeared in 1959 as a
sub-model of the Continental Mark IV, returning as a trim line of
the Lincoln Continental from 1969 to 1980. For 1981, the Town Car
became a model line in its own right, replacing the Continental as
the full-size Lincoln, a position it would hold through its
discontinuation.
For consignment, a Lincoln Town Car in total square and rectangle
design, landau top, chromed trimmings and plenty of passenger and
storage space. All bathed in classy dark blue, this 4 door sedan
has a consignor stated mere 46,324 miles however, the title reads
mileage exempt, runs swimmingly, is a 2 owner car and has always
been garage kept. Why not add a little luxury from the Blue Oval
corner into your life?
Exterior
In a design that was ubiquitous in the early 1980's, straight lines
are abundant. The radiator grille is rectangular in shape and has a
shiny surround with vertical ribbed thin posts in the center. Dual
rectangular headlights are on either side. Midnight Blue Metallic
paint with some age spots, inclusions and dings are seen
throughout. Also, some red pin striping shows up on the slab sided
panels. Side moldings are on near the beltline, and there is some
light age wear off damage to the vinyl caps that are on top of the
stainless below. The roof of the passenger compartment is wrapped
in dark blue vinyl and appears in very good condition. Plenty of
trimmings abound within the blue field and most are in good
condition adding highlighting throughout. The very squared off
straight line trunk has side vertical angular tail lighting as well
as some centered red light panels just below the trunk lid. Wire
wheels covers are on all 4 corners and present nicely wrapped in
thin white wall radials dating from 2015.
Interior
Beautiful and luxurious dark blue covers most of the interior
surfaces. All controls are within the silver door panel inserts and
have a wood applique background just above which adds some nice
contrast to the dark blue vinyl and carpet below. Well preserved
dark blue overstuffed large velour buckets are separated by a fold
down armrest. If up, it could accommodate a 3rd passenger upfront.
The rear bench is just as luxurious and affords plenty of legroom.
The steering wheel has controls for the cruise control and on the
dash is a mixture dark blue padded vinyl and faux burl surrounds
the black faced analog gauges. This holds true for the
radio/cassette player and climate control center. On top is padded
blue vinyl and it is in very good condition. Dark blue deep pile
carpeting is reserved for the floors and a new tight dark blue
broadcloth headliner is above.
Drivetrain
Lifting the hood we see the original unrestored drivetrain in the
patina engine bay. This is in the form of a 302ci V8. CFI
electronic fuel injection adds to efficiency and an AOD 4-speed
automatic transmission is attached to the back. The rear axle is a
Ford 8.8-inch rear which has a 3.08 gear ratio. The engine bay has
some rust and corrosion, typical of an unrestored car of this
age.
Undercarriage
Some slight surface rust on the usual suspects, with no invasive
rust to note on the floor pans, rockers and full perimeter frame.
Independent coil springs provide the ride up front and, on the
back, a 4 link with coil springs do the same for the rear. Power
disc brakes in front, and power drums for the rear and we note a
stock style single exhaust for the exhale.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and I sat in the back for this test drive, and it
was a great ride. My driver reported good acceleration, good
handling, and A/C that does work and a single flaw of the right
turn signal not working, possibly due to a bad bulb. I need to add,
I'm going on his word because it was so comfortable, I fell
asleep!
A beautiful, classy color combination, plenty of conveniences, and
wonderful blue velour combine to offer up a nice luxury car. From
the stand-alone front grille to all the exterior trim, and smooth
ride, this is a good used car. A list of new mechanical parts is
available for your viewing.
