The Holden Ute is a coupe utility built by Holden, the Australian subsidiary of GM, since 2000. Before then, Holden had marketed their Commodore based models under the Holden Utility (VG) and Holden Commodore utility (VP, VR, VS) names. The Holden Ute name is often used for earlier Holden models (produced from 1951 to 1984) as the word "ute" is a term in Australia for a utility vehicle or pickup truck. Most people state they miss the El Camino, and it's been a long time since its production ended in 1987. The Holden Ute, produced by the Australian General Motors subsidiary, was produced from 2000-2017 and is a modern El Camino in every which way. It's considered a two-door coupe utility and has a similar front end style to the Pontiac GTO or Chevy SS. Both the GTO and SS were based on Holden vehicles and the styling is very GM. Inside, the carmaker installed a dashboard that looked better in an executive car than in a utility vehicle. Its rounded instrument cluster, the aluminum trims, and tall center console were just a few examples. Holden installed a pair of high-bolstered seats for the two occupants. It has cruise control, inbuilt flash drive, leather steering wheel, front fog lamps and limited slip diff. It has dual zone climate control air conditioning. While a 3.0-liter V-6 powered the base model, the top-version featured a 6.0-liter V-8 powerplant that provided 370 hp. In a straight line, acceleration from the 6.0-litre V8 is amazing. The bellowing V8 soundtrack reminds you why you forked out the extra money over the V6. This Holden was Federalized via a complete Chevy Caprice PPV drivetrain and suspension with Corvette brakes.
