Vehicle Description
Chassis No. 10412CA
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
If there were a picture of a vehicle in the dictionary to describe
the word fun, it would have to be a Meyers Manx. There is no way to
express one adequately without saying it. A simple, lightweight
vehicle finished in vibrant colors for blasting through the sand on
a warm summer day exemplifies it. Simply seeing one of these beach
buggies will instantly generate a smile and good vibes.
The entire concept of a beach buggy results from the self-described
"beach bum" Bruce Meyers. Owing to his creative nature and
knowledge of Volkswagens, he bought an old Beetle, removed its
body, created an entirely new body from fiberglass, and mounted it
to the Beetle's chassis. Naturally, all his surfer friends asked
for one of these unique beach buggies to carry their surfboards
around. As word spread, the demand grew, and so did the icon's
legend as production began in 1964, with only the slightest
alterations until the end in 1971.
The Meyers Manx on offer, chassis number 10412CA, is an original
1968 example, which the original owner retained for an incredible
53 years. Built-in early 1968, this is one of the last pre-tag
models built. Bruce Meyers never expected the demand for his dune
buggy to be so strong; he never put ID tags on the early cars. This
car has been identified and listed on the Meyers Manx Registry as a
real example. Finished in its original Gelcoat, this bright Yuma
Yellow example undoubtedly made it a cherished and well-loved
member of the family. The front seats have been upgraded with a set
of Empi-style bucket seats finished in black leatherette, perfectly
contrasting the eye-catching yellow body. Just prior to the
consignor's purchase of this dune buggy, the brakes were checked,
the engine tuned, and the front suspension adjusted. As the 'real
McCoy,' this genuine Meyers Manx dune buggy is perfect for those
looking to bring part of the fun-loving Southern California beach
culture to wherever that may be.
