Vehicle Description
1967 Plymouth Satellite Hardtop
If you've been watching the market lately, you already know that
clean, well-maintained cars that have never had frame-off
restorations are growing in value by the day. I t has reached a
point now where in many cases, collectors are willing to pay a
premium for an original car compared to a flawlessly restored one,
all other things being equal.
A product of the space race and aptly named, this example is a true
original 1 owner car meticulously documented from day 1. All the
dealer info in the owners name, and has been off road since 1975.
Service records, monies spent and right down to every oil
change...it's all there in paperwork! The car has its faults, needs
some major body TLC mainly in the rockers and roof covering, and
sports its original paint. The mechanicals will need updated as
well as it currently does not run as to not having an assembled
engine. It's all there though, and with some major unibody work, it
can be a really nice buttoned up original survivor, but you need to
proceed cautiously to walk that fine line between original and
restoration. This will be with the cost vs results ratio as well
and will need careful strategy to be successful. Lots of options
with this example and the sticker will tell you this.
Exterior
The factory Bright Red has faded mostly into oblivion on this
finish which is original! It has plenty of patina, wear off, and
some severe rust in the rockers and trimmings area. A wonderfully
geometrically shaped B pillar is covered with black vinyl which has
rotted off on the top of the roof. Chrome is hanging in there and
presents as still shiny. On the bottoms of the car we can see some
two tone silver which has rust bubbling and faults throughout. The
badging remains intact and trimmings are all in albeit some rusted
mostly away. Standard wheels are on with thin whitewall tires which
are very aged.
Interior
Red vinyl is covering the door panels somewhat loosely and showing
some sags. Seats are red vinyl and have plenty of duct tape to hide
tears and rips in the seat on the drivers side. The original dash
is in, as is the console between the seats. The dash front is all
metal in red and has black plastic molded square and rectangle
inserts. The interior has an overall late 1960 charm in its
presentation and design.
Drivetrain
Due to engine pieces sun the trunk we do not know what the current
displacement is of said parts. The VIN states it WAS a 318ci LA
series V8 and the A727 3-speed automatic transmission is present
and accounted for. The original 8 3/4" rear axle is still hanging
out back. One needs to wonder what junk is in that
trunk...SURPRISE!
Undercarriage
Plenty of structural rust and unibody damage to the point where it
is structurally unsound. It is currently being held together by
ratcheting straps and luck. Drum brakes are on all 4 corners and
the suspension is rusted but showing in front independent torsion
bar style and rear leaf springs, although mostly rusted.
A well documented original, although you will need to take a
serious look at the work that needs to be performed vs return on
investment. The documents are nifty but the work could be daunting.
Rust is your enemy on this example.
