Vehicle Description
Chassis No. WBAEJ13461AH60260
Inspired by the timeless Albrecht von Goertz-designed 507 of 1956,
BMW's Z8 model of some four decades later represented both a worthy
successor to its illustrious forebear and arguably the pinnacle of
late 1990s retro-inspired car design. Featuring a bespoke aluminum
chassis clad in a svelte two-seat roadster body of similar
material, the Z8 was powered by the same 4.9-liter V8 'S62' engine
as the contemporary E39 M5; a unit appropriately sharing the same
basic architecture as its 1950s counterpart, albeit with almost two
liters additional cubic capacity.
The M5 powerplant afforded superb power and torque figures of 395
horsepower and 369 lb-ft, respectively, which - allied to the Z8's
comparatively modest weight of 3,494 lbs - enabled it to accelerate
from zero to 60 mph in just over four seconds en route to an
electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. Near-perfect weight
distribution and an ultra-stiff stressed skin chassis ensured that
the car's dynamic capabilities matched expectations, with Car and
Driver magazine noting that the Z8 reminded them of "a hugely
refined and sophisticated Cobra." High praise indeed.
This well-presented example was sold new in Massachusetts in
October 2000 and has covered just under 16,500 miles since. The BMW
Z8 Registry notes that this Z8 was delivered in the most popular
color combination of Titanium Silver Metallic over Black Nappa
leather with a matching black soft top. Highly original, it is
further enhanced by a number of desirable delivery items, including
its matching detachable hardtop offering all-weather motoring
enjoyment, its tool kit, and safety warning triangle.
Recent service records and its clean Carfax indicate that this Z8
has been properly attended to by previous owners prior to
consignment. In April 2022, a comprehensive service included fluid
replacements, new valve cover gaskets, replaced a/c system gaskets
and O-rings, new power steering lines and seals, front thrust arm
bushings, as well as a fresh set of Bridgestone Potenza RE050A
tires. Quite an attractive and classically finished example of
BMW's flagship model of the 2000s, it is accompanied by its
original owner's manuals - still contained in the correct
Z8-branded leatherette pouch, both original Z8 main keys with
pouches, and BMW first aid kit bag.
