Vehicle Description
1988 Jaguar XJS Convertible
The Jaguar car is world famous for its stylish designs, thrilling
performance, luxurious and comfortable interiors, outstanding
handling and ride, quality engineering, and state-of-the-art
technology. No other automobile manufacturer has been as remarkably
successful at creating both the world's finest luxury sedans, as
well as some of the world's most beloved sports cars. The founder
of Jaguar Cars Ltd. was Sir William Lyons. His goal was to create
world class sports sedans with "grace, space, and pace." Lyons once
said, "The car is the closest thing we will ever create to
something that is alive."
For consignment, something to put some excitement into your
derriere, a Jaguar XJS with 14,603 title verified actualmiles. This
passenger sports car with its V12 power plant can be a bit of a
handful when it comes to pushing you down the superhighway, all in
luxurious comfort. A tasteful mixture of off white tones and
English burl, along with some innovative use of technology, and we
are going for a ride in V12 British style. Also a custom off site
coachbuilder Hess and Eisenhardt convertible top, not available
from the dealer this year, has been put on with added structural
supports for good handling qualities to remain.
Exterior
Nimbus White bathes this cat's 2 doors from stem to stern. Shiny
trim surrounds all the glass and some extra black trim is thrown in
to add some mystique. Dual front headlights flank a thin grille and
long hood to follow up behind. The original hard top roof line has
been replaced with a Hess and Eisenhardt convertible conversion,
presenting in tan canvas with a glass rear window. It is power up
and down and works flawlessly, as well as totally hiding itself
under the rear passenger compartment cowl while in the down
position. A thin design for the rear panel and back tail lights
that wrap around the rear quarters is showing nicely. 15-inch
wheels in nice condition are on all 4 corners of this night
stalker.
Interior
Barley beige leather covers the passenger seating all showing very
nicely with no marks or even creases in the bolsters. In back, a
carpeted storage area and no seat, so the convertible has a place
to go when it's in the down position. A matching center console
races towards the dash and houses the power window switches and
fine T shift lever all within some beautiful walnut burl wood. The
dash is all original and presents in black vinyl with a smattering
of English lacquered burl. Peppered brown wool carpet, nearly like
new, covers the floors and rear storage area where the seat was.
All very clean and all very British...Blimey!
Drivetrain
An extremely nimble 5.3 Liter V12 is shoehorned into the engine
bay. It has May-Fireball high compression heads on either side.
Lucas Bosch provides the EFI and a TH400 3-speed automatic offers
up cat-like acceleration working with a 2.88 rear axle. All looking
showroom under this hood and an amalgamation of complex wiring
hoses and engine top end tubing and manifolds.
Undercarriage
Rust free, and well kept much like a favorite toy which was played
with the neatly tucked away until the next play date arrives. Power
disc brakes are on all 4 corners, and fully independent suspension
is on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
There is nothing like the roar of any 12 cylinder engines with
their mini pistons pumping up and down quickly but at low RPMs as
it just put out smooth power which went on for a long time. A great
high speed cruiser, this car will have no problem keeping up with
the modern day pace encountered on many highways. One frown is the
AC was blowing warm but all else is on top top shape.
A nice used Jaguar convertible coachbuiltsports car. No identity
crisis here, as it is a wonderful looker, a snappy sports car,
tastefully adorned in Nimbus White, tan canvas for the top, and
barley beige leather with some burl accenting thrown in for extra
giggles. A mechanical 12 cylinder to keep you busy on the tune up
front. When it's right though, it's epic!
