Mercedes-Benz has a long history and has been a pillar in quality and performance since the beginning of the automobile. Mercedes and Benz were two separate automotive companies of course, both creating cars that were incredible in both quality and performance, but later coming together to form one of the greatest automotive companies in the world. The SL was introduced to the world in 1954 with the 300SL which is considered by many to be one of the greatest sports cars of all time both on and off the track. A long line of successors followed the 300SL with many variations carrying the sacred model nomenclature and they still are producing new models today. The longest running version of the great SL was the R107 series which was introduced for the 1972 model year and coming to a close in 1989. A newly designed SL with many improvements, most notably the introduction of the Mercedes overhead cam fuel injected V8 in the SL, for the U.S. market in 4.5 liter form. These were incredibly superior and far ahead technologically than anything else at that time. The last version of the R107 is considered by many to be the greatest iteration with the wonderful 220 horsepower 5.6 liter overhead cam V8 which was incredibly more powerful than its previous 4.5 liter siblings and is the R107 to have.
