The 1990's would mark a triumphant period in motorsport history for
Honda. Not only were Honda engines being used to power some of the
most successful Formula One and IndyCars on the track, but their
mid-engined NSX had also proved their ability to produce an
excellent road-going sports car. First shown in 1995 as the Sports
Model Concept Study, a production version was introduced in 1999 to
celebrate the company's 50 years in business. Offering a tasteful
blend of twenty-first century technology paired with the classic
roadster concept, the S2000 would emerge a true drivers car in
every sense.
Boasting an impressive 240 horsepower, the S2000 is powered by a
2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine utilizing Honda's pioneering
variable valve timing system, VTEC. Relative to displacement, it
was the most powerful normally aspirated automobile engine
available at the time offering a glorious engine note when
approaching the impressive 9,000 rpm redline. Paired with a
six-speed manual transmission, this lightweight engine was set
entirely behind the front axle to offer 49:51 weight distribution
which, paired with a curb weight of just over 2,800 pounds and
double wishbone suspension, results in the S2000 offering truly
phenomenal handling characteristics.
Offered with 15,455 at the time of cataloging, this S2000 has been
periodically enjoyed and fabulously well kept in its original
condition. Featuring a striking specification, this Honda is
finished in a beautiful Sebring Silver Metallic exterior with Black
leather interior. Equipped with dual-exhausts, this vehicle offers
sporty styling touches such as 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and
rear decklid spoiler. While undoubtedly a driver's car, the S2000
still offers many features such as a power-convertible top, power
windows, and a digital instrument cluster. Discontinued in 2009,
these models have proved their extreme collectability among
enthusiasts due to their never replicated superb open-air driving
experience, paired with Honda's typical reliability.
