Vehicle Description
1927 Oldsmobile Model 30E Sedan
The Oldsmobile Model 30, which continued to be known as the
Oldsmobile Six, was built from 1923 through 1927. Each year it was
built, it was given the suffix 30-A, 30-B, 30-C, 30-D and 30-E for
the last year of production, all having been manufactured in
Lansing, Michigan. General Motors used the GM A platform, shared
with the Buick Standard Six and the Oakland Six, and the yearly
changes were the result of a new business philosophy called planned
obsolescence. The Model 30 was an Oldsmobile mid-level product and
introduced the flathead Oldsmobile straight-6 engine.

DOES NOT HAVE A KEY
For consignment, a Model 30E from 1927 and the Oldsmobile factory.
This old wood spoked wheel sedan was a mid level car for this last
year of its production and features all wheel brakes, and a larger
optioned 185ci I-6 cylinder. 4 doors and plenty of passenger room
it could be passed off as a wealthy man's car, so is this part for
you?
Exterior
Firmly planted in the era of the cowled hood, chromed front grille
surround curvaceous machined fenders connected by a running board
and 20-inch wood spoked wheels with heavily dry rotted tires. The
steel is straight but has plenty of areas of surface rust and some
invasive rust. Black paint covers the body also showing lots of
dimpling and inclusions which have invaded the finish over the
years. It has a dual bar bumper in front and rear and is a seven
window sedan with 4 doors. On the back, a trunk is mounted on the
rear and has a spare tire on its back end riding piggyback with the
trunk. Glass is all good and clear and trimmings show some early
signs of pitting and invasive rusting overall.
Interior
Flower stitched pattern broadcloth is on the door panels, and the
lowers are frayed and dry rotted just a smidge. Meanwhile the
handles and cranks are still shiny. The wide deep tuck and roll
front bench has the same flower stitched pattern damask broadcloth
on it and it remains in good condition. A simple black dash fronts
this bench and has a centrally located faux wood cream painted
steel panel. The instruments are varied in their design, and have
all black faces and white numbers and letters with a rolling disc
speedometer. A large wood rimmed steering wheel fronts this dash.
In back is more floral pattern stitched damask broadcloth for the
side panels and rear bench which has an ample amount of legroom. A
fold up foot rest bar is behind the front bench. More damask for
the headliner which has a triangular padded stitched pattern.
Lots-o-floral pattern damask for this interior! Low pile brown
carpeting covers the floors
Drivetrain
Under the cowled hood is the original 185ci I-6 cylinder engine. It
has plenty of surface rust on the head where the spark plugs
reside. It is fed fuel by a 1-barrel carburetor, and has an
original 3-speed manual transmission on back. A 4.73 rear axle is
noted.
Undercarriage
Underneath shows very little surface rust, and mostly black painted
stamped floor pans and steel framing. Some road dirt is plastered
throughout in the black surfaces, and the exhaust has heavy surface
rust but remains leak free. Mechanical all wheel drum brakes are on
which was a first for this year for Oldsmobiles.
A 4 door sedan which needs some TLC but it's all there with a
fairly good interior albeit an earlier non-original job. With
nearly everything present and accounted for it shouldn't take much
to get this old girl up and rolling again. And like the ads of the
day said, "gratifies your finer taste, satisfies your every
need".
