Introduced at the 1966 Geneva Auto Show, the Lamborghini 400 GT was
an evolution of the company's first model, the 350 GT. The new name
signified the increased engine size to four liters, while the
greater overall length accommodated four seats, resulting in the
2+2 configuration - combining performance and elegance in a highly
capable road car.
Chassis #01012 was completed May 9, 1967, and soon destined for the
United States via Jake Kaplan's East Coast Lamborghini
distributorship - finished in a most stunning Azzurro Fiat over
Senape Leather Upholstery. The 400GT found its way to the West
Coast and would later take up uninterrupted residency in garaged
storage for several decades. It was discovered and transferred to
our care and ownership in 2020.
Today, the Lamborghini presents, in highly original condition -
with the exception of an early exterior repaint in red, while
retaining its last 1979 registered California "Blue Plates". 01012
comes recognized by the International Lamborghini Registry as a
numbers-matching example, from a relatively famed and documented
California garage find (See:
https://www.torqtalk.com/home/ultimate-barn-find-67-lamborghini-400-gt-22
).
A straight body displays consistent gaps, original glass, trim,
rubbers, lenses and fittings, complemented by 15x6.5 Borrani wire
wheels and aged 205SR15 tires. Inside, the cabin appears to retain
the majority its original trim, upholstery, and components as well.
This includes its coveted Borletti air conditioning, period
Motorola AM/FM radio, wood-rimmed steering wheel, power windows,
toggle switches and various original equipment. The GT's original
leather and surrounds were dyed to its current black color - likely
around the same time as the body repaint. Both of the Lamborghini's
Azzurro Fiat (light blue metallic) and Senape (tan) original paint
and upholstery colors can be seen on various areas of the vehicle.
In this unusually seen livery, 01012 would benefit greatly if taken
back to its delivery form.
Originality continues to the engine compartment, including the heat
shield/pad and identification plaques auxiliary and a/c equipment.
The luggage compartment is properly lined and houses a correct
Borrani spare tire. The undercarriage retains a solid frame,
steering, and suspension components - representative of a lifetime
spent in the mild California climate.
With an engine designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, fresh from Ferrari,
and a chassis engineered by Gianpaolo Dallara, Touring's
Superleggera bodywork untimely crowns the charging bull. This 1967
Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 offers a rewarding invitation for further
preservation or returned to delivery specifications. Now available
for worldwide purchase and delivery from our Houston, Texas
showroom.
