The previous owner of this late series, 1989 Mercedes Benz 560SL was a U.S. military pilot who, we are told, was at one time a trainer for the NASA space shuttle program. Pilots are known to be meticulous with their servicing which goes a long way towards explaining the fine mechanical state this car is in.
Additionally, about one year ago our clients, Swedish citizens, purchased it in order to do their dream trip to, “See America” along the famous Route 66. After purchase, they had a complete service performed on the Mercedes Benz 560SL including a thorough replacement of air-conditioning components, installation of new tires, shock absorbers, chassis bushings, wheel bearings, water pump, timing chain as well as new fuel lines and fuel pump to ensure reliability on their journey. We were acquainted with these clients through their membership in the Pagoda Group, an international Mercedes W113 club as they own several of these models as well. Their intention from the beginning was to purchase this car, make their trip, and then have us offer the car to the next caretaker since they had no reason to ship the car home.
This car is essentially all-original with just over 65,000 miles. Paint meter readings document the completely original factory paint. This car runs and drives fabulous in every respect, exactly the way Mercedes-Benz intended. It retains all matching-numbers: engine, gear box, etc. Even the M-B soft top is original to the car and the OEM Becker radio with power antenna is still in place.
