Vehicle Description
West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely stunning and
exceptional example of this extremely rare 1989 Pontiac Trans Am
20th Anniversary Indy Pace Car Edition; a legendary Pontiac Trans
Am (1969-1994) amp; one of only 1,555 built to commemorate the 20th
Anniversary amp; #49 of only 187 Indy 500 Pace Cars with an
unbelievably low original 4K miles! The 1989 Turbo Trans Am Indy
Pace Car is still one of the fastest production cars to ever come
out of Detroit, embarrassing drivers of newer V8 powered cars top
this day. The V6 from The Grand National had tremendous power and
the improved weight balance in the Trans Am pushed the car to 13
second quarter miles at a time when other factory performance cars
were running 15s amp; 16s at best! Collector status was instantly
assured as soon as they rolled off the production line but with
many modified not many factory correct examples like this
particular example still exist. Rarity and exclusivity are just two
of the adjectives used to describe this spectacular 1989 Pontiac
Trans-Am 20th Anniversary Indy 500 Pace Car. Pontiac only made
1,555 and to crank up the rarity meter, this particular example
also happens to be:One of the parade cars for the Indy Pace-Car
Special Promotion Vehicles program. It is car #49.1 of 187 made
with T-Tops and a cloth interior.4,881 original miles.100% fully
documented with owners kit and all the original books, manuals,
promotional material, and PHS documentation.T-Tops have reportedly
never been off the car and the original T-Top bag and pads in as
new condition are included.Original battery, magazine write-ups,
and trophies are included. As with all 1,555 examples, this one is
finished in White but sports the very low production tan cloth
interior. The exterior is accented by Turbo, 20th Anniversary, and
Indianapolis Motor Speedway badges along with the vinyl 73rd Indy
500 decals on each door. This is essentially a brand new car as it
is in showroom condition and everything works. The original owner
was a GM employee for a number of years and won the internal
company lottery that awarded the opportunity to purchase one of the
parade cars, in which he did, and he had accumulated less than
4,000 original miles and many 1st and 2nd place trophies at shows
over the years before the car was sold to only its second owner
here in southern California.Under the hood is the HiPo 231 ci
turbocharged V6 engine from the Buick GNX complete with an
intercooler and electronic fuel injection. It is matted to the
original Turbo-Hydramatic 200-4R four-speed automatic transmission.
The car also features the WS6 performance suspension consisting of
independent front suspension with MacPherson struts, coil springs
and anti-roll bar, live rear axle with trailing links and torque
arm, four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes from the 1LE, and 16x8
Aluminum wheels with P245/60ZR16 Goodyear Eagle performance
tires. As equipped, the new Trans-Am redefined the term high
performance with 13-second quarter-mile times and top speeds
exceeding 150 mph. It was the first unmodified car to pace the
Indianapolis 500 in 1989. Originally priced at $9,000 over the cost
of the 5.7-liter GTA and with just 1,554 other examples produced,
including five test cars, this 20th Anniversary Indy Pace-Car
Trans-Am remains one of the rarest Pontiac's ever assembled.
Obviously always garaged and with no accident history whatsoever!
Owned and driven by only one very careful and mature non-smoking
owner/driver since new - never abused - babied all the way! The
original factory paint is in immaculate condition with the 20th
Anniversary Edition series amp; Indy 500 decals and the car's
interior all in immaculate condition throughout with no signs of
wear and with every option working as it should including the
ice-cold A/C.This particular model must be seen to be believed and
driven to be fully appreciated - the car drives as good as it looks
with no shakes or rattles and the considerable power of it's
turbocharged GNX engine boasting only some 4K original miles! There
are no oil leaks, the transmission shifts smoothly through the
gears and the temperature always remains cool. Drives exactly as
when brand new - you would never know the difference! This is one
very unique and ridiculously attractive and muscular car and this
must surely be one of the finest and lowest mileage example's of
this ultra rare limited edition (1 of only 187 produced Indy 500
parade cars built) amp; a 20th Anniversary Series model to boot
available anywhere!
