Vehicle Description
1955 Ford F350 Flatbed
The popularity of the Ford F-series pickup is no fluke. Born more
than a century ago, it earned its place in the American landscape
by delivering rugged value and consistent innovation. In 1953 Ford
was into its second generation of the F series making some changes.
It melted the F-2 and F-3 trucks into the F-250 line, making the
F-4 the 350 line. Today we are on the 14th generation and also
introducing alternative electric vehicles, Ford has always been on
the cars.
For consignment, a little history with the first owner of this
truck using it to run an orchard, where it was used to pick fruit
and run the produce to the market. When the orchard owner passed,
it went to their son who carried in the tradition. Eventually he
sold it to the second owner who rarely used the truck, and
eventually into the hands of our consignor who used the truck for
his lawn care business and now is retiring. A beautiful working
example from 1955. Maybe the apple of your eye, or could it be in
the correct "trim" to attract your wandering eye!??
Exterior
A close inspection of this truck and one has to look very hard to
find any faults on this ripe for the picking truck. As noted,
Meadow Green bathes super curvaceous but non dented and straight
steel panels which are very much minding their gaps. We are still
in the exterior bulbous fender age connected by running board era,
and this truck uses the black painted boards for access to the cab.
In front a big cream grille has a single round headlight on either
side and the iconic V8 in the center. A black curved bumper frames
the bottom. On the tops of the front quarters are the orange turn
signals in black bezels in stalks. A long stalked mirror,
(1953-1956 style), hangs off of either side of the doors and is
painted black, which are rare and hard to find. Our consignor notes
rare self cancelling turn signals are in, as is a "See Clear"
windshield washing system. Also cab topper lighting was put on for
that big rig feel. From 2022, a Ford script flat steel boarded bed
is also in Meadow Green and rests on a solid original rust free
frame. This hovers above dual rear 16-inch wheels painted in shiny
black and like new radial rubber from 2016.
Interior
A swing of this utilitarian meadow green steel covered doors leads
us to the interior where an original bench is in, but has new red
vinyl bolsters replacing the originals but retain their original
saddle brown uppers and seats. Black piping serves well as the
delineation between the two colors. Upfront a full metal jacket
dash in Meadow Green, housing the like new gauge cluster emulating
the 1955 car dash. The dash is fronted by the original big bakelite
black steering wheel with a central Ford 5 star hub to die for. A
heater hangs below the dash on the passenger's side and hovers
above shiny like new rubber ribbed flooring. The original headliner
has been removed and a new sound deadening gray headliner is now
installed. Nifty round brake and clutch pedals are in and add to
the original charm.
Drivetrain
Under the under the hood patina paint is the original Y block 239ci
V8. It is topped by a single 2-barrel carburetor, and has a 4-speed
manual transmission on the back. The rear axle is a 5.83 version
from Ford. The overall look to this engine and bay is a special
preserved patina and some surface rust, presentation, but certainly
not the in dis-repair kind. Noted, a starter rebuild was performed
in 2021.
Undercarriage
Our photos show a bit of surface rust on some of the usual
suspects, but all unremarkable. The frame is solid and rust free,
and due to the bed being new steel and wood is wonderfully shiny. A
Cherrybomb style single exhaust is on for the nice sound, and
suspension is leaf springs all over. Drum braking is on all 4
corners too. All clean and green here.
Drive-Ability
This big 50's truck started right up and ran like a champ. A very
nice example with all working functions, a comfy interior, and easy
operator. Smooth braking and acceleration and will easily go from
point A to point B.
I've touted these classic trucks for business owners to use not
only as a worker bee, but some nifty promo as well and this is a
perfect example. Literally a working truck all its life a mere 3
owners, now restored and mechanically sound ready to take on its
next job and look great doing it. C'mon in and shake this tree, and
be prepared to be "mowed" over by this one.
