Vehicle Description
1956 Chevrolet 210 2-Door Sedan
The Chevrolet Two-Ten, or 210, was the midrange model of the
Chevrolet car from 1953 to 1957. It took its name by shortening the
production series number, (2100), by one digit in order to
capitalize on the 1950's trend toward numerical auto names. The
numerical designation '"210"' was also sporadically used in company
literature. It replaced the Styleline DeLuxe model available in
previous years. The Two-Ten was discontinued after the 1957 model
year to be replaced by the Biscayne. The Two-Ten shared the
wedge-shaped side trim with the Bel Air, but unlike the Bel Air,
(which had the wedge filled with an aluminum trim panel), the
Two-Ten's wedge was painted either body color, or top color with
the optional two-tone paint package. "Chevrolet" in script was
mounted inside the wedge.
This drivable project example of a 1956 Chevrolet 210 2 door owned
by our consignor's brother for 17 years, but now with their
business growing and following the mantra of "happy wife, happy
life", we are proudly able to offer this consignment to you.
Sporting a non original 283ci V8, stripped of its trim, and with a
snappy interior you can't go wrong with this middle year Chevy from
the Tri-Five craze.
Exterior
A coating of primer black covers the prior coating of Tropical
Turquoise on the panels of this 210 and presents with some sanding
scratches, dents, scrapes and blotchiness of the paint. Some
evidence of prior bodywork, rust bubbling and rust staining is
apparent on the lower extremities of the body. The chrome bumpers
are good, and the trim that has been retained is shiny with no
dimpling. 15-inch Weld DragLite wheels wrapped in staggered black
wall rubber are seen on all 4 corners. A shout to the rear brake
lights with their Buck Rogers styling within ever so slightly
finned rear quarter corners. From the front hood ornament of the
streaking jet, single headlight on either side with a steel visor
above and lots-o-chrome below with the egg crate black grille and
lower bumper with extra chrome vertical bump bars. Let's go to the
drive-in and turn some heads on nostalgia night, then out to the
old airport for an impromptuhanky drop drag race. A shout out to
the curved glass in front and back, which wraps around to form the
rear of the passenger's compartment, which we are waiting with
eager anticipation to enter and read about...here we go!
Interior
Starting at the base, lightly soiled black carpeting covers the
floors. With the factory bench seat long gone, black vinyl covered
buckets seats take its place and look splendid wrapped in smooth
black vinyl for the bolsters and tuck and roll inserts. A sprawling
bench seat in the rear follows suit in the same color and pattern.
This tuck and roll and smooth pattern appears on the interior side
panels as well as the doors, however the panels on the door have
succumbed to moisture and show as wavy and bloated. An all-steel
dash is stunning with the all black, and the two fan like bumps
holding the speedometer and the passenger are present and cannot be
missed. A Grant rally style steering wheel is seen fronting the
dash as is a column mounted tachometer. A quad of white faces
gauges is installed in the dash where the radio once did reside and
the chrome heater/defroster knobs are present and accounted for.
Peeking in the NYC 2 bedroom apartment sized trunk reveals hints of
the former turquoise along with a ribbed black rubber mat for good
measure.
Drivetrain
Lifting the hood we see the factory applied coating on the
underside and between the fenders is a very simplistic orange
painted 283ci V8. A Holley 4-barrel carburetor feeds fuel to this
mill through an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and some chrome
is on for the dress up of the valve covers and air cleaner. This is
attached to a non-original 3-speed automatic TH350 transmission,
and the two work together beautifully to feed power back to the
rear axle weighing in with a 3.36 ratio
Undercarriage
A strong rust-free frame supports the floors and rockers which both
show signs of repair as are the numerous body hangers with some
repaired and some in various states of invasive rust and more
invasive rust on the inner rockers. Independent coil spring
suspension with drum brakes is noted up front and in the back, we
see new leaf springs and drum brakes. A newer dual exhaust system
with glasspack style mufflers ends justbefore the rear axle and
this rounds out our tour down below.
Drive-Ability
The car runs well, accelerates nicely and shifts smoothly through
the gears. It has a nice cruising altitude if you will, and an
overall comfortable seating and ride. A very impressive fun and
event free test drive from this classic.
An iconic car that has undergone a few changes mainly in the
drivetrain department but maintains the overall original look, with
some of the exterior panels starting to show some wear and tear,
and a beautiful 50's interior. A solid power plant, a nice drivable
project example of the mid Tri Five era in the mid end trim form of
a 210. And the dual fan dash is to die for!
