Vehicle Description
2007 Mazda Miata MX-5
As like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance the Mazda Miata
is referred to as "Jinta Ittai'' which loosely translates as "Rider
and Horse as One", (Glasshoppah!). The car was introduced in
February of 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show and is in the Guinness
Book of World Records as the best selling sports car with 531,890
units. It sports a 50/50 weight distribution, and to aid with
weight loss even the pedals are drilled, a strategy known today at
the "Gram Strategy". Its name comes from the 5th iteration of the
Mazda Experiment and was heavily inspired by the Lotus Elan.
For consignment a well kept example of a 40,956 title verified
actual mile MX-5 from 2007. To the first owner it was a treasure
for a former Porsche, Auto and VW mechanic who also restored
several cars but had this one in his collection. The current
consigner picked it up and has put only a mere 3K miles in it in
the last 3 years. The current consigner purchased the car because
he was a former motorcycle rider but was hit twice, so deemed it
too dangerous and needed some RX-citement in his life so he pulled
the trigger and purchased this MX-5.
Exterior
Copper Red Mica bathes this bulbous aero designed car from head to
toe. No hidden headlights here just smoothed over surfaces all
around enabling it to slice through the air like a hot knife
through butter. It has a dark tan convertible top which is near
flawless just like the paint that covers the well minded gapped
steel. A Jaguar-esque front oval grille is front and center and it
is flanked by fog lights. Power mirrors hang from the doors and
this car has a super sexy profile from the side, especially when
the top is in the down position. Rounded tail lights float over a
rounded neoprene body matching bumper in back, and below dual
exhaust tips peek out from the rear roll pan. This skate glides
forward on nearly new Pirelli P-Zero run flat tires which wrap
17-inch 10 spoke mag wheels. Zoom Zoom Zoom!
Interior
As a sucker for this warm color, the interior is wrapped in saddle
brown leather, which is on the door panels and mixes with molded
black plastic and vinyl to form the undulating panels with built in
cup holders hovering just fore of the armrest. The high back bucket
seats are looking like they've never been sat in, and have a very
sleek design. These chairs have a snappy center wide console racing
up to the dash between them, also covered in the saddle leather.
The factory dash is a beautifully designed sports car setup with
inset round overlapping gauges in black with white lettering. The
rally steering wheel has plenty of buttons to keep you occupied
including a paddle shifter option because shifting with the
centrally located lever is so pedestrian! Although the shifter is a
tap shift so it's not boring either. Plenty of options are peppered
throughout, including power steering, power locks, power windows,
heated sets, tilt telescoping wheel, cruise control and AC and it's
just a sports car, but not ANY sports car... Twin rollbarsfollow
the contour of the upper seats and are clearly seen when the top is
in the down position. In the center dash is an Alpine
AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth/Satellite capable head unit, and all on this
dash is super clean. Black carpeting covers the floors and it's
just enough look to take your toes and curl them into it while you
take it all in prior to your curve carving drive.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, squeezed in the engine bay which is very clean, and
patina free, a 2.0L 4 cylinder mill resides. It has EFI, and a
6-speed automatic which will get you going in a hurry as well as
saving gas in a long cruise. A 4.10 gear ratio rear spins the rear
tires, so there is a classic feel to this driver harkening back to
sports cars of yore with the rear wheel drive.
Undercarriage
The car rides and handles on all independent Macpherson Strut
suspension, with 4 wheel power disc brakes, and has a stock single
exhaust. No real rust to speak of, and plenty of cast aluminum
parts canting towards the "gram strategy" of weight
minimization.
Drive-Ability
Thus the car performs and handles flawlessly and handled the test
track with 3 tires tied behind its convertible top. Snappy braking,
great acceleration and the top moves top and down with ease and can
be done while you are moving albeit not really the safest or wisest
choice. All functions and options were working at the time of the
test drive.
A former motorcycle rider deemed that activity too unsafe so he
moved to a sports car which served him well. Now moving on in life,
time for another thrill, so this copper beauty with its saddle
interior is ripe for the picking. Come to our Hallowed Halls and
pluck this highlighter sporty car from our extensive inventory and
add some RX-citement to your life and garage.
