This 1989 GMC S15 is a lightweight truck with a cool sleeper style.
After all, the slick paint and clean lines are just part of a
well-kept classic pickup package. But that cowl induction hood is a
subtle hint at the beastly V8 upgrade beneath the skin. And with
nice features like an A/C interior, overdrive transmission,
limited-slip rear, and versatile long bed, you're going to find a
lot more to love than just the motor.
This upgraded GMC is a reminder of what we really love to do with
these lightweight machines: customize them. The bold dark blue is a
newer application that was actually borrowed from the BMW palette.
It delivers plenty of metallic glow as the light rolls off the
crisp lines of this square-body pickup. There's plenty more
upgraded shine on the brightwork of the billet grille, chrome
bumpers, wheel arch trim, and even the clear headlights. We like
the premium details, like the light blue pinstripe that helps
highlight how nice the sheet metal is, and the tonneau cover is a
nice aerodynamic piece that also protects the carpeted long bed.
But this GMC also likes to show it's about more muscle. The steel
cowl hood, polished dual exhaust tips, and competition-style wheels
are all nice upgrades for the look of a power pickup.
The sea of blue continues inside, The plush carpeting, clean door
panels, and fresh bench seat make this feel quite inviting. And
details like the cold-blowing air conditioning, sliding rear
window, tinted glass, and AM/FM/CD stereo with USB and Bluetooth
make for a better cruiser. But what you'll especially like are the
performance upgrades like the sports steering wheel, separate temp
readout, and the large AutoMeter Autogage tach prominently mounted
on the steering column.
The 350 callouts on the fenders weren't lying. This one has been
upgraded to a 350 cubic-inch V8. In fact, we're actually told this
is a 355ci performance build with a mild cam. The upgraded V8 looks
fresh in the engine bay with a clean and tidy style that may make
you think GMC once made a V8 version of this (it never did!) Plus,
you have performance components like a Holley four-barrel
carburetor, a Summit aluminum intake, and Hedman headers feeding
the dual exhaust. There are also nice supporting components, like a
serpentine belt setup and an aluminum radiator with electric fan.
It's a great power package that's also nice for overall enjoyment.
The 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission is a stout unit that's
used to V8 power, and it's also great for overdrive cruising. And
the limited-slip rear end is welcomed for all driving conditions.
There's also power steering, power brakes, front discs, and wide
modern tires.
Complete with the owner's manual, this is the GMC that has been
upgraded for sleek style, cool comfort, and plenty of power. It
makes for a terrific total package offered for a terrific price.
